I suggest removing the 5 speed freewheel as well. That is going to be a few pounds of dead weight.

I had a hub like that on an old Free Spirit 10-Speed. The threading was there to hold a disc brake rotor, but it works as a fixed hub too.

normally ride a 64 and you got a 57... gonna need a 2 foot seatpost on that sucker. =P
i found an old schwinn thrown outside of a house in the keys about 2 months ago. i didnt pick it up bc it looked like it was in the 60+cm. we coulda traded.

They put disc brakes on Free Spirits?

that's a freewheel, not a cassette (i.e., get the right tool).

just saw this on HT but i'll respond here instead. =P
since you took off the cog/lockring from the motomess, i guess youre not riding it?
that looks like a great lock-up bike... nothing flashy for a thief to want to take off with it.
i will say to remove the hideous multi-speed freewheel from the other side.

the gearing is CRAZY tall lol. im either going to get a new cog for this bike and put the cog back on my motomess, or get a crank set and front gear *i dont know the term :P* for the beater bike.
ill clean it up and paint it some time. no hurry
oh, and the motomess is rocking the SS freewheel right now. but no chain, as its on the beater :P.

wtf?! keep it! you havent spent a dime on it yet (other than the cost of purchase $5). get a new chain (for your motomess) and clean this sucker up.
you'll have a spare bike that cost you next to nothing to put together.

can you still ride backwards if you put a flip flop hub ona fixed gear? and does the flip flop hub make a bike idle like a bmx? basically like "cruise" ina sense ? i want to know if i can benefit by using a flip flop hub for tricks but still want the freedom of riding backwards.
Thanks

A flip flop hub just means you can have two different gears on each side of the wheel. One side fixed one side free or fixed fixed. So if its on the fixed side you can go backwards. Its just like a single fixed gear. And if you take the wheel off and flip it around and then you have a free wheel = no backwards or if its another fixed gear then backwards as well if you want. But its its just a regular flip flop its probably best to put a freewheel on because its made for that unless you like the suicide hub thing.
