OK, you want to create a totally American Grand Tour team tomorrow. Who would you put on it? And how would they fare at this year's TDF?

1. Levi
2. Horner
3. Vandevelde
4. Hincapie
5. Pate
6. Zabriske

Are you looking for a team of 9 riders for a grand tour of current American riders?

Because that seems a lot like name the American Cyclist who compete at that level.

But to play along.

David Zabriske.

Yea, 9 current riders. Could use a sprinter and some guys to help George out in the flats.

true. The US barely has a team's worth of euro-pros.

lets flip the question a bit and speculate how competitive various nationalized grand tour teams would be?

The US would hold up well, but i think Spain would run away. an Australian team could be pretty formidable too. O'grady, Evans, Rogers....

They won't let him ride but...

7. Floyd Landis

8. Saul Raisin

Bobby Julich would have made almost every other TdF squad but CSC.

Nothstein and Julich are both 36. Danielson is 31 and Nydam is 30.

Yea, I would have to say that the American team would be a little long in the tooth. 30 and above to say the least. Is fast Freddie still fast?
