Hey guys, whats up? I have been riding my pitbike a lot and decided to bring the bmx bike out and try some jumps with it. Anyway, I have some sort of mongoose dirt bmx bike, a silver racing bike that I a want to do some mods on, a next bike and a mountain bike. As you can see, I don't really have a nice bike out of that list. So, I really like the frame on the silver mongoose and I would rather just keep that and not buy a whole new bike. I want some new pedals and like a bolt set cuz some of the bolts are messed up. My question is arethese (http://www.danscomp.com/465151.php) good, or what do you recomend. I also need just a back brake and lever, what do you recomend for a low budget? Thanks guys in advance.

edit: and is it Ok to run a back wheel tire thats for dirt and a front thats for street, because I have a dirt and street set, but I ride in the street and my dirt jumps somethimes.

for the most part, pedals are pedals dude. and for brakes, just look on danscomp. i think they have some tektro brakes for under $20. tires-it doesnt really matter. street tires will give you less rolling resistance though, and youll be able to roll farther and faster.

Ok, thanks, and one more thing, how about a chain?? Same as foot pedals?

So for pedals. I would reccomend get Oddysey PC Pedals for like $15 they are plastic and have good grip. Then order a dia-tech fiesta brake or oddysey evolver. I have the fiesta and i like it. The fiesta is $20 and the Evolver is $40. Get a oddysey linear cable and Oddysey Monolever in whatever size suits you best. I think the tire set-up should be fine.

I doubt that mongoose or next are even compatible with those parts.

if you're gonna mix your tyres up it's traditional to put the chunky one on front and the slick one on back. the reason being if either of your tyres are gonna slide out from under you on a corner, you're less likely to kill yourself if it's the back tyre sliding rather than the front.

Oh, one more thing, I want to use the gyro thing so I can spin the bars. My bike already has one, but doesnt have any brakes or cables...http://www.danscomp.com/480003.php?cat=PARTS so is that all I need, or do I need a mount for that or something?? Sorry guys but Im kinda of lost.

I didn't think you wanted gyro. So if you would like gyro and you have everything ready except brakes, cables and you want a new lever, pedals, and chain. Here are my reccomendations.
Dia-Tech Fiesta Brake $22 http://www.danscomp.com/480004.php?cat=PARTS
Snafu Astroglide Gyro Cable $10-$14 http://www.danscomp.com/511030.php?cat=PARTS
Oddysey M2 Lever (for gyro) $22 http://www.danscomp.com/486035.php?cat=PARTS
Oddysey Twisted PC Pedals $14 http://www.danscomp.com/465056.php?cat=PARTS
Shadow Interlock Chain $30ish http://www.danscomp.com/464041.php?cat=PARTS
I am not sure about the chain, but someone else can say a chain that is better if so. I hope this helps.

Ok, thanks guys. After reading about some gyro crap, I dont think I want to mess with one. I am just gonna go with a straight line one, but do I need anyting to mount one like http://www.danscomp.com/480003.php?cat=PARTS that? I know I will need a cable and lever(which I have) but I shouldnt need anyting to mount it, right? All my bike has is a hole where the old brakes went on. And I don't need pedals anymore, because I got some off another bike that I really like. But I still need the chain.

Street rider
07-26-08, 12:47 PM
yea. get the compression bolt off, and then if its like a normal stem, then it should have some allen bolts on the side that you have to pull out too.

mspike
