pardon my ignorance, but I'd like your advice...
A friend is selling his bike, said he'd be okay with $500. The details of the bike, to the best of my recollectionare as follows: '83 Schwinn Paramount frame (powdercoated) with Cinelli bottom bracket, it has a full Miche group on it, black Velocity Deep V rims and Nitto steel njs certified bars..
i wish i had pictures, but aesthetically it looks pretty nice, but I'm not sure what its actually worth.

Dont buy it,
schwinns are boat anchors (for the most part)
I'm pretty sure that miche group is something like 500 new, but I would guess he doesnt have the full miche group unless he (foolishly) had those hubs laced to deep v's. Removing those hubs (and I would bet dollars to dougnuts the seatpost is missing too) drops the value of that group to MAYBE 350. Thos 70's and 80's frames are not worth anything (I've been given several) and I would let him keep the bars and get something suitable for street riding (track drops are THE worst option for street use).
most importantly does the bike fit you?
I wouldnt call the dude much of a friend if he's trying to sell you that setup for 500 skins, if anything he should be hooking it up. I would offer him 400 at most, probably 350 unless he REALLY has the full miche group with hubs seatpost etc.

What universe is this where Schwinn Paramounts are worth nothing?

(oops...too late)
It's a track frame, not a conversion, and it fits, buy it in a heartbeat.

Seriously, I know it is early but when I read the first two responses, I thought I was still asleep.
To the OP--------Dude, an '83 Paramount frame alone is going to hit 5 bills on eBay, snag it!

Out of curiosity why would it be foolish to lace Miche hubs to deep v's?
It all goes back to the Austalian-Italian wheel wars of '04. Sad times, my friend. Sad times.
OP if you haven't already, buy that bike now now now.
How do you know it's a paramont? Did you friend get it powdercoated himself?

I assume you're just joking, but I'm curious what the issue is as I have Deep V's with Miche hubs.

So the Miche hubs, despite being mediocre, are considered too good to pair with ****ty deepv rims?

Your sarcasm detector is broken.
Deep-Vs are fine although, compared to racing rims, they are heavy. I would wager that 98% of this board couldn't notice a difference while riding on the street but that same 98% will now stop buying them because they have been told they are heavy. Sell your shares in Velocity now, before it is too late.

Nah, my friend is a pretty stand up guy, I know he's not trying to rip me off.. He did get it powdercoated himself, so I just have to take his word on the authenticity, I guess.. (Unless there is another way to verify?).I'll see him this weekend and I'll probably buy it then because its better than my other bikes
Also.. sorry, no my name is not patrick
