Anyone have experience with the Tikit off road? My commute has a section of well packed gravel trail. I was wondering how the 16" wheels would do on that.

I've ridden my Tikit along the Erie canal near Rochester, NY and had no problems. You won't have any issues unless if it's packed gravel.

Its possible. Drop yr tire pressures to abt 40 psi for better grip and comfort.

No problems at all riding the tikit off road, granted its not as smooth of a ride as my mountain bike, and I would be a little concerned about the long stem/mast but I have ridden my tikit on some of the grass horse trails that my area has to offer without any problems.

Thanks!

Keep your butt on the seat and feet on the pedals. The design depends on it. I would never attempt to drop this bike into a deep bowl or jump it off road. The seat catch couldn't handle it and the thing could fold on you. It is most definitely first and foremost a road bike. In any case, this question is best answered by the designer, so ask Rob English or Hanz Scholz what they intended for this bike. Sounds like your instance is pretty insubstantial as off-road goes.

Logs and larger stones are a hazard to feet, as the old peds are a bit closer to the ground on 16"-ers. I speak from painful experience. Road based tyres can lose grip in a nano-second on loose surfaces, especially when braking or turning.

Ditto.

So far only mud has been a problem and I'm running slicks on my Tikit. It handles unpaved terrain quite well, but obviously the small wheels limit what you can take on in terms of obstacles. A gravel trail/path will not be a problem.

Welcome back Vik. How was yr expedition? :)

Had lots of fun...photos here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikapproved/sets/72157606340683742/)....but, I hurt my hand so I had to come back earlier than planned. Met some really cool bike tourists on the trip. I'm just taking it easy and hoping my hand heals fast so I can complete a couple more tours I have planned this summer.

what bike?

Yes that's my Surly Big Dummy (http://www.viks-bigdummy.com)....it's a cargo bike, but it also makes a pretty nice dirt road/offroad touring rig.
