I am looking for a basic bike computer that would monitor my cadence, HR, speed, and time. I also want to use this computer at the gym for HR monitoring. The Polar equipment works with the machines at my gym but I have not heard many good things about their reliability. I don't mind wearing a watch while working out but may have problem lugging around a handheld unit. I also want to use the HRM while lifting weights so gym machine compatibility is a 'nice to have'... not a requirement. Garmin seems bombproof but I don't think their sensor will work with the gym machines (and they don't sell a watch-based unit)? Suunto sells a lot of options but I haven't read much about them (for bike stuff... I have their scuba gear and it's quite nice). Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

The Garmin Forerunner 305 (and 405) would fit the bill for you, if you get it with the cadence sensor.
