I don't think anyone's start a thread on this, but man o' man did he freakin' nail the part. Made Jack Nicholson's performance look like a clown.

I was thinking, there is no way someone can make another Batman movie, just because the Joker was done so well.

I liked both Jokers though, Jack Nicholson's portrayal was very good, although his Joker wouldn't have been doing disappearing pencil tricks.

They don't play new movies in Africa. So I'm waiting to find a pirated copy on the interwebz. Shh, don't tell the mods, they'll sick the Feds on me.

I regret I haven't seen Jack's performance.

But, I agree... I went tuesday night and was really impressed!

I thought it could have ended an hour sooner and saved the two-faced man for the next villain.

I am going to see it again this weekend or next with an ex-coworker and also see Hellboy 2.

Indeed, The Joker stole the movie, i mean, well well done, Mr. Ledger.

Jack's Joker was amazing. Ledger's Joker was amazing. They're both great, just different.

I think I actually liked the Tim Burton's original Batman (and maybe Batman Begins) better than the Dark Knight. The Joker was the only thing, IMHO, that kept the Dark Knight moving.

It was a good movie, but not a great one.

I'm glad they made reference to him at the end of the movie, "In Memory of our Friends...".

Best Joker ever.
Second was Ledger.
Cesar Romero was better than Jack.

I'd forgotten about that. Didn't he do several voices on that cartoon? The early episodes of that cartoon were great - had a real 40's film noir look/feel to them.

I think he was only the Joker and someone know as the Creeper on the Batman cartoon.
Hamill did the voices of the Green Goblin, Hobgoblin, and another who I can't remember on the Spiderman cartoon.

I know this mostly because one of the twin's ex-girlfriend was one of the animators--and because I'm a geek.
Trivia--her last big project was working on SpeedRacer.

Yes, Ledger's joker was EPIC. He got the "just want to see things burn" part down.

I'll have to look for that Mark Hammill series. My son watches the current one w/ the Joker in green dreads. I agree Cesar Romero>Jack Nicholson. Imagine if he'd shaved his mustache before putting on the makeup! Hoping to go see this new movie next week.

Yeah there is some reference on some of the TV Entertainment show(s) that mention many times about how Ledger rather stole the show ...

Plan on seeing it soon.

Batman the Animated Series was one of the best animated comic books I've ever seen.
The art changed through the series as it does in comic books. Very well done. Same group produced Superman, two Justice League series, and several stand alone movies. All good stuff.

^^^I agree. When that Batman cartoon first hit it made a lot of noise from critics. It was different - not typical kiddy fare. Again - very edgy and dark and had an art deco/film noir look. Perfect for Batman.

Nicholson seemed to be aiming for more of the comic book type of Joker, which the whole Burton Batman did very well. These latest two are a new take, and it gave Ledger license to reinvent the Joker. I saw it last night.....WOW!! That movie was amazing!! It beat the crap out of Halfbaked!

I love Nicholson, but he was cast horribly as the Joker, it was basically Jack Nicholson with pancake makeup, not the Joker. The original casting choices Burton had in mind were Willem Dafoe, John Lydon and David Bowie, all of whom I think would have worked out better.

This Batman was pretty good, and I definitely think Ledger was the high point, (and I'm not just saying that cuz he's dead.)

Absolutely. Nicholson was trying to imitate Caesar Romaro too much. I really liked Romaro, he gave Joker his laugh. It was obvious Nicholson was cast only for big name draw.

The franchise went down in a horrible nose dive of god awful tripe until the current two.
I hope the next one will a Detective Comics kind of story. A Batman and Gordon vs. Gotham's underworld--Scarface would be good, and not gadgets and explosions. The ending of the first Christian Bale batman got on my nerves a little. This one has not sunk in all the way yet.

I think Ledger and Nicholson both put their interpretations on the joker character, but I was waaaay more impressed with Ledger's. I've never found a character terrifying, hilarious, and menacing all at the same time. Just brilliant. It was definitely the high point of the movie, regardless of Heath's death.

Thought the same myself. Twoface was every bit Batman's enemy as the Joker was. Bit more so because Batman held back because of Harvey Dent.

I rather liked that they didn't completely villainize him. He was rather likable and I was pleased to see him only taken so far before the end of the movie.

+1 to Ledger playing an excellent Joker. My roommate and I both loved the exiting-a-certain-doomed-building scene. I laughed my *** off at that.

It didn't seem as drawn out as it could have been. Pirates of the Caribbean 3 was far worse to me - it wasn't just drawn out, they just umpteen-dozen different endings on top of it.

Haven't seen it, will wait for the DVD; that's just me.
But the previews I've seen lead me to believe that Ledger's Joker was as eerie as Brandon Lee in the original Crow.
Looking forward to it.

they have to do bane again. he won't be at the same level, but he's the only one to be able to come close to the joker from what i read. dent and the joker were perfect. this is THE best movie ever made.

and mark could do a good joker and make him just as scarey if his part was written right. his voice would probably sound a bit more the part. he'd be different but just as good i think.

nicholson's was crap in comparison. but some of that was just the writing.

it's like, the first two batmans were not in the same league as begins. begins is NOWHERE NEAR the same league as the dark night.
