Road Bike Racing - One thing I won't miss ...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

When this TdF is over at least we can go another year without having to watch Thomas Voeckler butcher his bike. I can't recall in the last 20 years a rider who looks more uncomfortable and inefficient out of the saddle as he does. Yuck.
(I feel it only fitting to point the obvious fact that he could still ride me into the ground on his worst day though).

Does anyone else think that Burghardt's stem is too long? I mean, if he feels alright on it, great. But I don't think you're supposed to be that stretched out.

Braaaiiins...
For another year?! There are other bike races, you know.
My vote for sloppiness goes to Jens Voigt. It was hard to watch him in the TT.

Did you read the analysis from - I think procycling Mag? [was browsing the bookstore]
They put "Hahahaha" under Sastre's ability to sprint.
They put "Climbs like a thug" for Evans' climbing style.

Mancebo wasn't exactly a pretty picture either.

He was abandoned before we were subjected to it, but Mauricio Soler is not a smooth climber. He is a very effective climber though, much like Jens and the TT.

Sloppy? Sure, Voigt gets -1000 for "smooth" on a bike. But who cares. Drinking your opponents blood is a sloppy affair.
Voigt = Badass.

oh, you should probably tell him then! he probably doesn't have experience with that sort of thing.

 You sound pretty accomplished at being a jackass.
just saying... i'm sure your intentions were in the right place, but it's really hard to bite your tongue after reading some dude on the internet "pointing out" that a Tour de France stage winner doesn't have his bike configured correctly.
Surely, you can appreciate my cynicism...

Actually, Most of these guys are not rocket scientists. They are paid to ride their bike, hard and fast enough. And thats what they do. Biomechanically? Not always the most sound. Aerodynamically? Again, there are a lot of places that many of them fall short. I look at the TTs in particular and I see all sorts of stupid [fecal matter] that the pros do and I just shake my head. These guys are stupid strong, and sometimes that makes up for shortcomings, even to the point of a stage win.

Care to cite anything in particular, since your perspective is always appreciated?

Many, if not most, of the larger teams spend time in wind tunnels and on tracks working the position of their riders to get the most speed out with a position that they can ride without hurting anything. What they end up with may look unusual, but it's not like someone just tossed a random sized bike at them and told them to deal with it. Teams that make it to the tour have a lot of support staff. Remember that these guys are on their bikes 6-8 hours/day for most of the year, and they have to be able to do that without it hurting too much. The domestiques who aren't riding for GC just have to pick a comfortable position for the TTs and finish inside the time cut and not burn themselves out.
