I took my mtn bike out yesterday for about 5 miles on some paved paths with snow on them. This was great...My mtn bike felt like it had road tires on it. We have about 1-2 inches on the ground so it didn't slow me down any. I dressed warm and put a full face hat on under my helmet. It was about 12F degress out and very sunny.
I am sick of being cooped up for the winter...I think this is all about to change.

Welcome to the wonderful world of winter riding! I can't ever imagine not riding in the winter now. Much like a new trail, winter rides can be all new. The trails are simply different, and it has to improve bike handling skills. Also, if you dress right, you're never cold @ all. It's good stuff, eh? :)

Welcome to Winter Cycling.

Stay safe and warm. :)

Be careful with the MTB, if it is your only ride, salt on roads can get in to everything and ruin a good bike. Better to look for a beater, now that you've got a taste, and, like the word says, beat the snot out of it.

There's studded tires, and the Ice bike site has recipes to make your own studded tires.

So welcome, let us know the details!

Go offroad, you'll love it in the snow.
Wash your bike off after road riding, dry and oil the chain, derailers.

I washed it all off real good and wiped everything down with oil and lubed the chain real good...
Thanks for the advise

:D, And thanks for sharing. Although I do like snow riding, I'm sort of counting down the days until spring. I can't wait to get on the road bike again.
