speaking of saddles, from looking at this saddle archive (http://www.bikecult.com/works/saddle.html) I was curious as to why those weird looking high-backed saddles were banned in official races?

I want one so bad. When are they going to be available?

I think the thing was that you could push back against it, and gain leverage thereby enhancin performance.

I still have one! From the 70's. I think these were originally marketed as BMX seats, but we used them on our track bikes.

Uh, no. That saddle pictured is a Cinelli BMX saddle from the 1980's. Cinelli didn't use that flying 'C' logo until after 1978.

I'm taking issue with the OP's claim of "1962". Clearly, it is not.

I would be very surprised if Cinelli "re-released" anything. More likely there are 15 boxes of those saddles sitting in a dusty corner of a Columbus warehouse. They'll slowly start to trickle on to eBay and Ben's and a bunch of other online sellers the same way the Priest bars did a few months ago.

As much as I/we want the Italians to realize their old s hit is the good s hit, they don't. It is a pipe dream that they'll all of a sudden start pressing a bunch of 67 Pista bars, 2A stems, and Binda Extra straps. Never gonna happen.

Yes, Cinelli is re-releasing it, the one of the photo is the new one!

I find the old leather covered Unicanitors very comfortable. I know they look like a ss hatchets, but that isn't quite the case. I don't know how different the shape is on the BMX models however. And let's be clear, all of the saddles pictured so far have been the BMX model.

For those of you scoffing at it from a photo, an opinion of a saddle is usually better formed after actually sitting on it. Until you've at least done that, your commentary is useless.

They got a leather covered Unicanitor at the co-op for $10 right now... I may jump on it. If anything it seems like it'd make a good winter commuter saddle - strip away that leather to raw plastic and no worrying about keeping it dry while locked up. There's no padding on it at all. A few messengers I know like them and say they flex a lot in the bumps and are kind of hammocky.

Anyone else ride/ridden one?

I have one... it is not a bad saddle at all.

I had one on my ride last year. Loved it.

*edit: not cinelli, but same saddle sans name.

Sweet, I think I'll pick it up and give it a try. At $10 you can't really lose... I love bike co-ops.

So how much is the new Cinelli plastica?
I dont want one, I just want to laugh at how much they'll want for a plastic saddle. :)

Oh, it is. The abso-frigging-lute worst saddle ever. DON'T BUY ONE! That way when they go on closeout, I can pick up a lifetime supply.
