Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - advice on purchasing a bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am looking for a light weight single speed bike. I'm a newbie so I really don't know much. I can't spend too much money on it. I just need something to get me started. I have been looking on craigslist and ebay for a 45-47cm bike, but haven't had much luck. I was looking at this one. the 47cm black one. Is that a descent price for it. Again, I don't know anything about name brands or which ones are good or bad.

There are some good options on BikesDirect, as you may have seen. Very competitive (great) pricing. If you're going to run it singlespeed, it might be more advantageous/cost-efficient to pick up one of the models that ships with brakes.
1) small bikes are more difficult to find used
2) how much is not too much? that number varies based on who you talk to
3) iro makes the heidi
4) for the love of god use the ****ing search. There are several threads on the first page discussing entry level bikes.
5) if you can go to a bike shop and ride a few. That will give you an idea about what geo feels comfortable
