Not bashing anything just posting a bulletin.
I just this week took delivery of the Viewpoint Flare 5 headlamp from PerformanceBike. It quit working on the second use; the light only comes on when the switch is depressed. There is no flashing or constant-on.
Upon returning it for an exchange at the b&m store, the clerk informed me that they had pulled those from their shelves and had stopped selling them for the moment due to a large number of returns for similar defects. In fact, I noticed a returned one already on the counter behind him.
My personal theory (unverified) is that it is probably a bad lot of ASICs in the circuit boards that affected a certain production run which might be remedied in the future. For the time being, I would advise caution when considering the Viewpoint Flare 5 as they otherwise seem to be recommended around here.
