Foo - Are you a recliner or not?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
On Wednesday I flew from Chicago to Portland, Portland to Salt Lake City and SLC to Bozeman. On Thursday I flew from Bozeman back to Chicago.
I would be happy to pay extra if the seats did not recline. The minimum amount of comfort you get from reclining is nowhere near equal to to the suffering caused to the poor b@stard behind you. I am only 6' feet tall, I can't imagine what it is like for someone who is tall.
So do you recline or not?*
*Yes, the choices are somewhat biased, this isn't the most scientific poll taken. ;):)
I, thankfully, haven't been on an airplane since I was about four years old.
I did, however, go to all of those cities in one trip. I reclined the seat of my car a bit.

I travel quite a bit on 3 - 4 hour flights. I can't stand when someone in front of me reclines since I'm 6'3" and long legged. Makes for a long, uncomfortable flight. I would agree with paying extra for leg room, but not executive class prices. Perhaps an extra $100.

I'm short.
I don't have to recline.
I try to get the bulk head seats so I can stretch out. They are the only ones that have any amount of leg room.
btw, for you frequent fliers, here is something that may be worth looking into. Have not used them, just heard about them

I have only flown for training with my team. I am normally in a group with them so I dont mind crowding the space of someone I know. Plus we are all so exhausted from the training we will sleep standing if need be :-P
When I flew from Chicago to Minneapolis to Tuscon I reclined my seat every time.

Reclining seems to bother my more on long flights than usually.

6'4", I recline every time. Its the only way I can fly somewhat comfortably, person behind me be damned.
If someone infront of me reclines, they will have to deal with my random and violent knee-spasm-kicks.
I don't mind so much. I'm 5'6". Even though that's all legs, I manage to fit in tight spaces pretty well. Oh, and get the emergency exit seat and you get a buttload of leg room.
the seat dropping back 4" is not reclining. I don't know why they bother.

you would not get any comfort by reclining back on me. I would just use the opportunity to do some calf raises. You would get very annoyed....everyone else has. :innocent:
Only recline if I have room (Jet Blue is great for wider areas), because I personally hate it when someone is laying in my lap basically.

I'm 6'4". I have flown on a commercial airline once (round trip). I will avoid it whenever I can. I did not recline. I just ate my kneecaps the whole flight.

6'6", and I don't recline because as pointed out earlier, that 4" the seat moves back is insignificant.
My solution is to get an exit row seat. Those have plenty of leg room.
Short flights (less than about 4 hours), no. Long flights when I actually try to sleep, yes. But I always put my seat upright when the meal comes.
I always partially recline my seat. The suckers behind be can just suffer.:D
The reason I actually recline my seat is that my lower back and rounded shoulders don't like the bolt upright position. I don't have a problem with people reclining, it's the people who overflow into the seats beside them I don't like.:twitchy:
