My wife is looking for a comfort bike--looking at some Specialized bikes--
she likes the 2009 Specialized Globe Caramel--had yet to ride the Specialized Expedition-2008.
She likes the large step-thru space on the WD. Any thoughts on similiar bikes or the differences between these two? Does anyone have experience with these models?

has Specialized, Fuji, Raliegh, Giant and a few other brands.

We bought a Schwinn Voyager at the LBS this year for my wife. She confines her rides to tour de neighborhood. It is very comfortable and adjustable. It is fairly heavy and was quite inexpensive - less than 300.00.

um, you might want to tweak the title of this thread a bit...

10 days ago I took mine down to get her a comfort bike, I found the Specialized had better hardware, and balance but the Giant and Schwinn were cheaper, they give her a deal on the Giant and she is very happy with it. I must comment that workmanship is not that hot on the Giant, rims wobble, loose head set, kick stand had issues, also it comes with slime filled tires, if you like slime thats good.
But she is happy with it, thats what matters, let her have the final say, she will be riding it.

I have the Specialized expedition and totally love it. I also rode the trek, Giant, Schwinn, and some other Comfort bike that I can't remember. The Specialized and the Trek are very comparable in both price and in how well they are made. The Giant bike felt "cheap" and just not well put together. My SIL has the Giant and it has squarish tubes. This makes it extremely difficult to attach a child trailer and we had to stop and tighten her child trailer over and over again. We switched trailers just to make sure it was her bike and not the trailer. It was definately the bike.

The Schwinn was really comparable to Giant. The way the seat attaches to the post on the Giant is easier to adjust than the Specialized. The Giants colors are also a little prettier IMO, but I wouldn't trade my Specialized. It has these really cool handlebar grips that are wonderful for my Carpel Tunnel. I can't recommend it enough! Everything is just so smooth and solid.

My SO recently bought a Specialized Expedition Sport for me and it's fantastic! The LBS had both the Specialized Expedition and a Trek Navigator on the floor. I did try both-but didn't have to labor over a decision. The Specialized was much more comfortable and seemed to have nicer styling all around, including ergonomic hand grips and a more cushioned seat.

I bought the men's version in black and red, which is pretty cool-looking. I didn't care for the women's model, but I'm sure they both handle the same. One caveat; if you do get the men's model, there is no place for a water bottle on the tube; we had it mounted on the handlebars.

We-as well as a friend of mine-had each purchased Specialized Expedition Sports two years ago, but I found the medium frame just a little too big for me after I rode it a while. We gave it to John's father for Father's Day and replaced it with this one. We all love our bikes.

Looks like the 2009 Specialized Carmel (http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/Bikes.aspx?Year=2009&Brand=Specialized) comes in several versions. There are 3 levels each with 26" or 700c wheels. Do you know which one she rode?

I typed the original title while I was half asleep--
I guess I neglected to proof-read my post-
I already have the wife--it is the bike she needs-
She tried the Specialized Carmel--26 inch the $385 MSRP version w/
26 inch wheels--that shop did not have the Expedition in her size
Where did you find the 2009 Specialized info?
I didn't see it on the Specialized web site?

comfort bike-wife update--
we went yesterday to LBS and they had a Specialized WD Expedition-in her size and a
Specialized WD Crossroads. The Crossroads is almost the same bike-it just has higher and skinnier tires.
She liked the Crossroads better and will take delivery Friday. Our anniversary -25th - is around the corner,
hopefully this purchase will make us both happy and add a shared activity to our marriage..
if not, then I might be looking for a comfortable wife for a bike as my original title suggested..
seriousily, Specialized does a good job on the WD and I reccomend anyone looking for that type of bike to give them a test ride--
