Eastern Canada - OBC members here?

Just looking for some feedback on group rides for the roadies, in the Gats or surroundings. Good or bad?

Just joined this year to get back into group riding and I've been quite pleased. They insist that new members take a group riding clinic before their first real ride, and I grudgingly obliged. However, judging from the other riders at the "clinic" I can see why they have this rule.

Anyway, I've only done the Sunday morning rides (usually the 100+ km one) and there is a very impressive turnout at Billings Bridge plaza. Then the groups divide by distance and subdivide by pace, so you can really pick exactly what you're getting into. I sort of wish that the rides started and finished somewhere a little nicer than a mall parking lot, but other than that, I've had pretty good experience with the club.

However, I'm really more into the mountain biking and since the Rideau Lakes tour my OBC participation has been practically nil... so I'm not sure I will renew my membership next year. Partly it might be the age gap, (I am usually the youngest rider) which can make me feel a little awkward at times.

I'm more of a roadie. On my side, they only have Vélo Plaisir, a bunch of pot belly riders for the most part.
Then there is the Rouleurs de l'Outaouais, a top end team of racers but snub as hell. They won't return my emails and even Nicolas has sent a heads-up for me to one of the riders, but to no avail. OBC look like the only option for me next year.

I definitely don't have any real complaints about OBC. However, since I divide my riding time between a lot of different styles: (Road, XC, DH, Street... yes I have 3 mountain bikes). So joining a club that only does road riding doesn't hold that much interest to me. However, if you join OBC you can say you are a part of the oldest and largest bike club in North America!

You will probably enjoy it if you are over the age of 35 and enjoy long road rides of fixed pace.

I'm 39, and i know there are a few retired vets and active masters. I enjoy a steady AND a good challenge, be it climbing/sprinting/TT intervals, etc.

The time trial series along the parkway on Thursdays was always my favorite event. It made it real hard to work on Thursday thinking about the TT all day.

But now it seems like they charge to register for it and you must have a racer's license, for insurance purposes.:notamused:

I might of misread the club rules, but that's no so fun to me if true.
