lately i've been really fascinated by old school road bike items.
i really want to get an 80s time trials frame (650c front, 700c rear) and build it up with classic 7-speed suntour or campy, or hell, even shimano 600...
so trawling ebay today i found this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3657302378&category=22681)
and then this. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3657282084&category=42332[/url)
and now i need money. i don't need a new bike...i REALLY don't need another bike, i HAVE a road bike, and two track bikes...but...there's something so strangely beautiful about that freewheel!
(this could also be due to my most recent movie choices, ie: quicksilver, breaking away, etc...)

Thats so funny, I recently bought a funny bike, TT from ebay. I was so excited when I bought it that I had to buy another for my son, in fact I won the auction this last weekend, now I have to pay for it..
Oh well good luck and who knows you may like it...
I just wish someone would buy my old school bianchi brava so i could have more space for more :D

I am 39 and would love to have a 56 chevy bel aire, dont think there is anything wrong with oldies but goodies, and think about it, the bikes they had back in the 80's looked pretty cool :D

hehe yeah definitely a lot of nice bikes came out of the 80s...my road bike that i have now is an 80s pinarello. i set it up with '03 all black 105 though. somehow it just doesn't seem as elegant as the old 5 or 6 speed bikes. dont' get me wrong, i love that bike, but i don't ride it as much as i should because i feel like it's almost too nice.

sounds like a nice bike. so tell me, if you get an older tt bike are you going to restore it and ride it or hang it on the wall to look at hehehe
(just kidding)
The problem I have is: which bike should I ride today hehehe :D

it sometimes takes me 20 minutes to leave the house because i can't decide which bike to ride! :)

there you go :)
check out the 3t a hero bars on ebay, I bet they would go great with your funny bike should you decide to buy one...
and if you want a rear disc with campy cassette, let me know I will sell it cheap hehehe :D

those 3t bars are pretty sweet, but i think i'd have to go with these. (http://www.yellowjersey.org/nittott.html) probably either the farthest left, or the farthest right set. i have some of the older mavic bullhorns on my roadie now and i pretty much love them.

I used to have LA bars on my first tt bike many moons ago, and they definately are awsome.
I got some of the 3t a hero bars for my current tt, which is a funny bike. so I have old school mixed with new.

here (http://pages.emerson.edu/students/justin_pyatt/media/images/vantuyl1.jpg) is my funny bike. it doesn't have normal track bars on it, but i don't ride it on the track anyway, so i figure i might as well be somewhat comfortable...i love that thing it's so fun and small and quick! it makes me wish my roadie was dropped in the front (hence my latest obsession).
nothing wrong with a being a retro crouch; but you better be a very short person to fit that bike on E-bay.

i normally ride a 50cm frame, but i could go bigger.
i'm not getting the bike...there's just...no way i could afford it right now. :(

And that's the problem with ebay for the retro grouch. Too many nice bikes/components, not enough $$$$. And every now and again, you see something you're unlikely to see again (at least not in the shape it's in), and you just gotta blow the cash.

Why is it retro Grouch ? Why not Retro Cheery. Because one likes old things does that make one grouchy?Does one ever hear of an antique furniture lover oh he is Antique Grouchy?

OTS, I feel you, too. I'm only 21, and only 2 out of my 10 bikes are newer than '80, and most of them are older than that. I don't understand it, either (other than vintage road bikes are just damm cool :D )

Schwinnbikelover........speaking of vintage parts, aren't those time trial bars on bianchi_rider's bike identical to the ones on your Finnish boyfriend's bike??

Sorry can't help you embrase the Retro, too busy enjoying it myself!
James,
Its grouchy because I see alot of frames I would want
to convert to fixies/singlespeed, but due to my retro/period correctness (pc?) I just can't bring myself
to butcher/change nice old steel frames. Pass on enough
of them and I get grouchy :D
and therein lies the problem, no?

Why, yes, yes, they look very similar. Unfortunately, you're breaking my heart. He is only singlespeed, not single in the traditional sense.....

Yep. Recently on eBay there was a 1969 Libertas 50cm for sale. It was a BEAUTIFUL bike. I would LOVE to have it. Too bad it is 10cm too small :-)
