Introductions - Hello and My Weirdest Experience On a Bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Greetings and thanks for this site and great forum. After weeks of lurking, I finally signed up.

Here's my favorite bike related (true) story. I'll keep it brief.

The time is fall, 1990. I was taking a training ride along the American River path in Sacramento CA. Motoring along at about 22 mph and minding my own business when suddenly, a huge antlered buck came bounding out of the brush just ahead and to my left. In a split second he was 10 feet in front of me and headed right towards the path. He hit the pavement and did one of those "Bambi on ice" leg splatters as I scrambled to avoid him.

Which, unfortunately I didn't. (At this point, everything went into slow motion.)

I hit him square in the gut and endo-ed over the top of him. As I sprawled and slid, my eye caught him scampering back into the woods, seemingly unhurt. I was scraped and certainly dazed but otherwise ok. The front wheel was bent pretty bad and I had to walk out to find a phone. I still see this as if it happened yesterday.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here and hope to contribute and learn. Other bits about me: I'm a new resident of Portland OR and am looking for riding partners. I own 2 bikes - a Trek 5500 and a Lemond Poprad (hence the "55/Rad" name) and mostly like club type rides.

All the best to everyone.

That's a wild experience! Oh deer! :p

Welcome to the forums and welcome to Portland! I don't ride in groups but you won't have trouble finding partners and group rides, I'm sure.

Enjoy!

That's quite a story! I wonder what prompted the buck to cross at just that moment, and w/o looking both ways. Welcome to the forums!
