Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Schwinn Madison crazy size

So after much thought, I decided to invest in a new fixed gear bike. After countless nights of searching craigslist for random parts and trying to build a fixed gear, I came upon the Schwinn Madison. Seems like it's a good bike for the price. However, the dilemma I'm having is that damn size. I am 5'10" and ride a 56 cm frame on a regular bike frame. My inseam is 33 inches when I'm simulating an actual bike seat. The sizing chart on Schwinn puts me right between M and L. I've read some people saying that L works and some people are tell me to get a size smaller. What is the best size for me?

You and I could be twins. I am exactly the same height and inseam, and also ride a 56.

If you look at the top tube and stand over, the Large is very close to a traditional 56. The only gotcha is the steep head angle. If you want a fast handling bike your fine, just be aware.

The guys at Rivendell Cycles have their own philosophy about bike set-up, and I believe that the Schwinn sizing system might be very similar. I personally like the Rivendell philosophy, for my style of riding -- which is commuting and generally riding for fun. The Madison, by today's bike industry standard, tends to run one-size larger. If you read the article in the link above, you will see the advantage behind this classical sizing system. Good luck. I love my Madison!

Thanks for the replies. I guess I should get the L then. After reading the article on Rivendell's site, it states that I should get a seat tube height of 57.5-58cm.

Definitely the medium. I'm a bit taller than you and the medium I have is perfect, I wouldn't want an L. Test ride it and see what I mean.
