Classic & Vintage - o.O Look What I Found at the LBS Today:

I took my 1978 Raleigh Sprite in to have the bearings all repacked (I recently got it and pulled a bucket load of dirt out of the chain and cassette -- so I knew the rest of the bike had been equally unloved for awhile) -- I'm not handy enough yet to pull out cottered cranks and take apart hubs and bottom brackets...

As I pulled into the parking lot I saw something dash away... so I went to look: it was a young kitten. Soon enough I saw mamma cat and the other 2 babies....so while I waited my turn at the shop (small, 1 person place -- I love it!) I popped over to CVS and got some kitten food.

Mamma cat was ever so grateful:

When I went back inside, the LBS owner told me that he'd been feeding them, but wasn't able to pick up any of the kittens... so I went back outside and sure enough I was able to pet and pick up the kittens... and sure enough, the little orange one went home with the shop owner,

One little calico came home with me, and mamma and the remaining baby I'll help out with a no-kill rescue group on Monday.

So, meet miss (Raleigh), Sprite:

About 3 weeks ago,
I was in the mountains and saw what I thought were two dead kittens on the side of the road.
This was on a usual route that I take so I figured I'd stop to throw them in the bush.
Turns out that only one was dead, the other was laying beside it's dead sibling...
Not sure how long this it had been without water, but it was skin and bones and maybe 5 weeks old.
I finished my climb and looped back.
Picking the rather lifeless cat up and putting her in my jersey pocket I made we made our way home.
When I got home, I washed her and picked all the fleas and ticks off her frail body.
That day, my wife took her to the vet to see if she would live. He said only time would tell.

Today the cat is growing and healthy.
She is also loved by my 3 daughters.
The cat's name is Lucky.

Coincidentally,
the vet is also an avid cyclist and we plan to do weekly Wednesday rides.

We picked up a dilute calico named Lily 3 years ago from the local Animal Rescue. Here she is guarding our bed from any vermin.

Thanks for the warm welcome for Sprite... she's the most composed and calm (for non-sick) kitten I've met. She joins the rest of my rescued gang (two dogs, Melati and Zebulon and 3 other cats: Aizan, Orion, and Seven -- btw way, Aizan's name predates the existence of the Voodoo Aizan bike and I didn't know about Seven bikes when I named Seven). I'd sworn no more... but here she is now...

She came at a good time: Friday someone had dumped a horribly abused cat in the street in front of my house -- I brought him in out of the 95 degree heat and rushed him to the vet.. but, it was too late for him. :-(

CB: Lily is gorgeous! And I love her name.

Unbelievably: Lucky the cat is indeed lucky -- how sad for Lucky to have been there like that -- and how miraculous that someone who cared as much as you did came along before she joined her little sibling.

Meanwhile, I'm pretty lucky -- none of my cats are "demon spawn" -- whew!

i too have that invisible sign,
i work with a no kill shelter and we are picking up mamas and babies being abandoned in parking lots everywhere.

at least one new litter a week, and only adopting out 1 or 2 kittens a week.

I had two at one time, they were sisters but not litter mates:wtf:

Lost the last one about 2 years ago:( My life style does not particularly support pets at this time (gone from home too much)

About 3 1/2 weeks ago, my dad and I were going to Wally-World (*twitch* Where I work) and as we were driving up to the intersection there at it, we saw this little black and white kitten kind of dancing in the road. She didn't know what she was doing and we both thought it was amazing she was alive there. So, we pulled up and even before my dad stopped the van I was out and had her in my arms. We continued into Wal-mart after that and got what we came for (I don't even remember what now) and left her in the car (like 10 minutes, it wasn't very hot outside). When we got her home we took a good look at her and then kept her in some milk crates we had around until my girlfriend came by a few hours later (she works at a vets office, she knows more than me, my mom, or dad know). She was dehydrated and more than a little malnourished. We figured she was four or five weeks old. Well, we decided to keep her and found out we were right about her age, but, overall she was surprisingly healthy.
I named her Samus.
And she's quickly become a very loved (and HYPER) part of our family.

And yes, I've got a brother and sister team (Linus and Dixie) who tear around our house, and do all those wonderfully manic things that just-past-kittens know so well. And it took two of them to replace their predecessor, Killian (God's Own Cat) who lived with me for sixteen years, and spent every evening with me in the garage as I built bikes. He was an absolute wonder anytime I dropped a small nut, etc. (which was often), making sure it never got out of sight.

Our beloved stray brings the vermin to us in bed.

I deliver auto parts for a living, which is quickly becoming a part time job, but that's another story. I deliver to this one shop that specializes in bumpers. Paint, chroming, etc.... They have a few cats around, and one of them had kittens eventually. I inquired about one, and was told I could have one when they got old enough. TO make a long story short, I ended up with two brothers. One is the brains, and the other is larger and more athletic. On the right is Kit Carson (Western Adventure Kitty) and on the left his sidekick Smokey. I know, silly names but they really live up to them, hehe.,,,,BD

Kit Carson always seems to have that look on his face, whenever I'm around at least. Looks like contempt doesn't it, lol........

I feed a feral cat once in a while. He/She won't come closer than 50 feet or so, but that's close enough.
Cats are too smug, and won't fetch.

(Well, it's really more that they trained me to throw things for them on cue... :lol: Pickles, my little male, has a new game; I am supposed to toss the toy to him so that he can bat it back to me. I catch it, and throw it back. He'll do this for ten minutes at a time! If I make a mistake about which game we are playing, and throw the toy too far, he fetches it, but gives me a look of disgust and sits on the toy for a while before he lets me try again).

I once had a cat named Trout who'd play fetch... he'd play it until you were worn out from it.
