Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Lockring help

I just bought a used wheelset with shimano acera hub, i have a sprocket and spacers but no lockring. I'm not sure which which lockring to buy. The spline is 33mm in diameter. Anyone able to point me in the right direction? There also seems to be a bit of thread on the end of the spline.

It's my first ss project so i'm still learning.

That looks like a multi-speed hub to me.

Sure. Performance and others sell kits. But yes, spacers, and the normal cassette lockring. You end up with a freewheeling single speed, not a fixed gear - and most hear run fixed. That's why the answers above.

Surly makes an adapter that replaces the freehub freewheeling assembly, and a coworker of my uses one. They are expensive (~ $100) but in his case he uses it on a spinergy carbon wheels so he has no choice.

All the Shimano Hypeglide (and compatible) freehub lockrings fit. Your freehub is likely a Hypeglide and Uniglide hybrid. But if there are no threads on the inside of the freehub and no single wider spline, you may need a new freehub. See here: http://sheldonbrown.com/k7.html#hyperglide

Your hub looks the same as the one I have on an older tandem bike--it was designed for a 6-speed cassette (but obviously a single cog and spacers will be just fine).

Looks like you got a late 90's acera hub.

Just get yourself a "standard Shimano cassette lock ring" that comes with any of their cassettes made within the last 10-15 years and it will work grand. You can get them from any bike shop. Just ask for a new one or old one from a junk cassette :)

There should be a really thin washer, same sized diameter coil spring and the lockring itself.

I've interchanged acera, deore, xt, xtr cassette lockrings no problem. They're all pretty much the same. Even the road ones might work.

It should look exactly like this (even thought this is a SRAM lockring), hell SRAM might even work too!

However if there are threads on the outside end of the cassette splines (20 years old+) then you might be able to use an old BB lock ring. From what I remember it is the same diameter.

Thanks all for the replies.... i visited the LBS today and got myself a lockring and a few washers... they ended up charging me $20 (au) all up, not too happy about that when i could've just used some pvc - guy waits till the last minute to tell me they're $2 each.. anyway.. fitted the rear wheel and its all working well.
