Sunday Morning on TV did a segment about getting around by bicycle: named everything EXCEPT 'bents: "Tag-a-longs", trailers for kids, a large flatbed DF bike, how 'Bike Friendly' the city of Portland, OR. is, "green lanes" at stops, etc.

Tells me a little something about recumbent bikes/trikes. After 28 'bent years for me - I wonder if the term "parade bikes" is still being used to describe recumbents?:50: I guess some things never change- no wonder I still get the "What the 'H' is that???" :saweeet: I find this very interesting and funny at the same time. :injured::hug::injured:

I made the same comment to my wife. Not one word about bents. Strange, huh?

Here's something that I find just as peculiar....I also ride a motorcycle. I have for over forty years. I watched amused as the baby boomer generation finally got enough balls in their 40's and 50's to to go out and buy that motorcycle that mommy wouldn't let them have when they were kids. Now that they've been riding them ten or so years and realizing that they aren't as easy to hold up or maneuver those 700 pound behemoths as they were 10 years ago, there are a large number of them either converting their motorcycles to trikes or selling them and buying new trikes (the motorized type). Now that I'm a tadpole recumbent trike rider, I'm reading on forums like these that a lot of people are learning about trikes for the first time or switching over to them from DF's because of their failing health or just because DF's are simply getting harder to ride. Covering that would have been appropriate in the Sunday Morning program. I think the bottom line is that most Americans are just plain 'programmed' by advertising, and 'bents' simply aren't advertised.

Note the image of a bent used in this article (http://apnews1.iwon.com//article/20080727/D92651HO0.html).

Some media outlets either get bents or at least don't have a problem with them.

I don't know if it makes you feel any better, but I do see 'bents along my commute route here in Portland. Even in the green bike boxes. :)
