Kazakh rider tests positive at Tour

PARIS (AP) — Kazakh rider Dmitriy Fofonov has tested positive for a banned stimulant during the Tour de France.

The test result came to light Sunday minutes after Spain's Carlos Sastre won the race.

France's anti-doping agency says Fofonov used a heavy dose of the stimulant heptaminol. Agency head Pierre Bordry said the rider was asked whether he had a medical exemption, but Fofonov did not provide one.

The positive test came after the 18th stage Thursday.

If the B-test supports it... dumb ass... and good riddance.

As far as I am concerned this tour inst over until next week when all tests results are in. We all thought Landis had won it..so results are not final in my book.

What I don't get is why the continue to report DQ'd riders as having won stages. At the wrap-up today, Versus still reported that Ricco won stages 6 and 9. They should be reporting that Valverde won stage 6 and Efimkin won stage 9. If you're going to DQ someone for breaking the rules, you should REALLY DQ them. The next rider to cross the finish line actually won ... no asterisks needed.

Until the B samples confirm doping, the stage results stand. At least according to Phil.

You're wasting your breath trying to invent some French conspiracy theory about it. If the test was from stage 18 the turn around time was remarkably quick. Normally its a week or more.
