Does it matter wich way a half-link chain goes.Is this right or wrong?

curious, what's the benefit of half links?

bike goes faster. my wife has one and i can't catch her.

proper chainline on a bike with vertical drops,but i think they started on bmx bikes for grinding rails.

for the OP, i think that you may want to try a chain tensioner. (i assume the chain is new) and know it will be stretching, i'd say invest in a chain tensioner (if you don't have a der. hanger you can use a type made by KORE that clamps on the chain stay and uses pressure to tension the chain) just a thought thinking that it looks a bit loose already, and that a tensioner may help in the future.

sorry, i was responding to the poster suggesting a pulley type tensioner and according to sheldon:

You cannot use a derailer on a fixed gear bike, even as a chain tensioner, because when you resist the rotation of the pedals, you would bend the derailer. This presents a problem if you want to use a frame with vertical dropouts as a fixed gear, because there's no easy way to adjust the chain tension. This is also true of chain tensioners sold for singlespeed coasting bikes, such as the Surly Singleator.

a half link chain is cheaper than a eno hub.

however the only chain I have actually seen snapped in half not due to improper installation is a half link chain.

The correct way to install a half link chain is the big part of the link to the front.Yours is correct.If you install it the other way it causes the links to spread apart.On bmx bikes I have had good luck with the shadow conspiracy brand chain bad luck with kmc.The kmc was like a time bomb.They are used in bmx not for grinding on your chain.The reason is that modern bmx bikes have short dropouts micro gearing (25-9,22-8,28-10) without much room for adjustment a half link is usually needed.Companies started making whole chains out of half link and we bit.Also alot of bmx riders prefer to have the wheel slammed all the way to the front so the wheel stays straight wheel tugs don't work well doing frestyle tricks wear they get bent from doing grinds.

Are you using a Shadow Conspiracy half link chain?

If so, they come with instructions on which way the chain ring should pull.

No not the Shadow conspiracy chain,I cant remember the brand it is but the model is called "Pintle". Maybe a KMC...not sure.
