Touring - Really want to know about the jobs in Australia.

Hello! I am a student going to Australia for my studies and need to have a look at the job scenario there. I am considering working there as I would be needing some extra money (apart from the one I will be getting for my studies). Just need some info on the jobs available there …….. do you people have some info for me???

Better check your visa restrictions - how much work are you allowed to do on a student visa?

I suggest you visit the Lonely Planet thorn tree forum, you will get lots of advice there.
Is there a student union or other association where you will be studyng? Student support department? They will have up to date advice for sure but might be restricted by regulations in not suggesting cash jobs that are less stringent about visas.

What studies and where?

There are many types of jobs available like jobs on part-time, permanent, contract jobs and if you need a complete view of the information there then you can check out Australia Top 10 (http://australiatop.com/) ,
This has a good content that can be of your interest. There are many other sources too available … you just need to have a basic search for that.

It might have been helpful if the Y-Gen gimme-NOW individual had included a few pertinent details such as where he will be studying, how long he will be in Australia for and when, what other work history or qualification he has, where is work interests lie and how much he is expecting to get (earn is probably too strong a word these days).

There are all sorts of options job-wise here, but it varies from State to State and city to city. Apart from www.seek.com (http://www.seek.com) there is also the www.jobsearch.gov.au (http://www.jobsearch.gov.au) website and the Harvest Trail listings which can be accessed from the jobsearch site. Then there are the newspaper ads -- which google can help locate.

The Harvest Trail deals with generally casual farm labouring and fruit picking. It's an area that I know well as I am involved in the industry. But I suspect that the work is probably beneath our newly joined poster to even bother considering.

Don't even get me started on the Gen-Y short attention span/gimme now thing, DON'T GET ME STARTED! I was just ranting about this on another board. Hopefully the OP will either offer something relevant to the forum subject matter at some point, or just move on and we can all live happily ever after. If not, I'll kill the thread.
