Hey folks,

My wife currently has an old Specialized hard rock with 24" wheels. Its not a bad bike, but she cannot even come close to keeping up with me when we ride on the road. I would like to give her a better opportunity to keep up.

She does not want a road bike, but likes the hybrids. I could go out and just get her a hybrid with some road tires, but was wondering about just updating the MTB.

How effective would/could it be to outfit her current bike with some road bike gearing and some 24" road tires?

The most important question is fit. If the bike really doesn't fit her very well or she is uncomfortable on it, then don't even consider it.

However, if it does fit then a set of slicks will do her well. If you go for long rides you may want to consider the Nashbar Trekking bars (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=&subcategory=&brand=&sku=9756&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=Show%20All%20Products) so she has multiple hand positions.
