Yesterday. 35+ 4/5 downtown crit. The S/F straight is 2 city blocks long, with a somewhat steep uphill drag. It goes from 3 lanes to 2 just before the intersection where the finish line is. With a crosswind, everybody is guttered going up the hill and has to squeeze in there.

The crit is 32 laps... we're at least 20 into it when up at the front a shouting match breaks out. Apparently somebody got squeezed who didn't like it. The problem is, he's dropping F-bombs and various other vulgarities all the way up the hill, across the line in front of the officials, and down the stretch where all the spectators are standing.

Race finishes in a sprint from 8 guys, one of which is the yeller.

Went to to check results after the race, he's been DQ'd for foul and abusive language.

My vote? Good on the officials.

Sounds like he needed a time out as well as a DQ. 35+ 4/5 ain't exactly a pro. I should know. :innocent:

I did that once during a TT. Fortunately I didn't report myself.

An F-bomb when you crash is one thing, but a slew of invectives is entirely another. Good of the officials.

Other then maybe a "Hold your damn line" or something like that, no more is needed. Trying to start a fight like that is childish and DQing is just fine. However, foul language is ok, as long its not directed towards someone in an abusive matter. I've yell "oh damn/sh1t" when a big rock gets picked up from a tire and only misses my face because I move my head real fast or something to that nature. If its something like that, I think that is rediculous.

f-'em. Seriously, though, this sport breeds a-holes. Let's be honest -- this is the chance for older guys with money to relive their high school quarterback dreams. When you screw with some 40 year old's dreams of being a legit contender, especially when he wasn't ever forced to grow up, this is what you get.

Haha, it's a 4/5 race.

If a tree branch is hanging out over the course at eye level and you shout "Duck!", is it considered fowl language?

What's the punishment going to be for that outburst???

See, this is the kind of attitude we need in a 35+ 4/5 race.

(also known as the "with kids and careers" category)

I can't say for certain, but I'll take a quack at it. I'm thinking the crowd pelts the offending racer with bread crumbs.

I'd say something rude, but I don't want to be anas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anas).

Do you think that will fly with the moderators?

Someone remind me to bring bread crumbs to the CBM.

A guy here nearly got DQ'd for profanity. But the official was a chicken so the racer just flipped him the bird and told him to go pluck himself.

But I would have to DQ myself every time I crash my MTB. Fortunately there are no NORBA officials on my MTB rides.
