... thankfully there was a helmet wrapped around it.

I was headed to work like usual. There was zero traffic, so I took a corner nice & fast. Unfortunately, there was a puddle from the last nights rain, and my bike went out from under me. The fall was so fast that before I even knew what was happening I heard my helmet slam the ground. I got to my knees & sat in the road for a second, in complete shock. After I picked up my bike I went to the curb & layed down in the grass to collect myself. A few drivers stopped to check on me, including my cousin who just happened to pass by, but since I was 2 blocks away I decided I could finish the trek.

I broke all the reflectors off of my pedals, and since they don't sell replacements & I commute @ night I had to get new pedals. I also scratched 1 of the bar ends & a rear derailleur, but the bike is entirely functional. As for me, my knee hurt that night, and my upper arm was bruised, and I had a dull roar of a headache, but no concussion.

I wore a 661 Mullet, and it held up GREAT. There are 2 tiny cracks in the foam, it seperated from the outer shell, and had a bit of scar damage on the outside. I got a Trek Vapor as a replacement, but will still file for a free replacement Mullet & use that for spring & fall.

Bottom line: Despite looking like a dork, my helmet definitely saved me from a trip the Emergency Room, and quite possibly saved my life.

That's good news.

Wear the helmet and you can always take the dangerous corners fast!

If you skip the helmet...ride safely.

Or you could be careful around corners, especially in wet conditions. With or without a helmet. Glad you're ok.

I, too, am glad to hear that you are ok.

I assume you broke all the reflectors off the pedal on the right side (assuming you lost it during a right turn) of the bike, right? I reckon you cannot replace just one pedal, so had to buy a new set.

As for your non-concussion, you verified that in the emergency room of a hospital or with a checkup from your doctor, or what?

If you really banged your head, you are the last person qualified to anecdotally evaluate whether or not you have sustained a concussion.

Usually, when I lose it (it's been a while, thankfully), I never bump my head, and I don't have video of any of my "finer" moments, but assume that, somehow, I remain rigid, glued to the bike. So, while I don't hit my head, I've sustained some pretty painful injuries to my shoulders and collar bone. Your reflex is probably the better one, especially when wearing a helmet.

Glad yours worked for you.

Zeytoun,

Slow down? In wet 90 degree turns? Nevah!!!

Caruso,

I checked WebMD for symptoms of a concussion, and didn't have any symptoms.... No nausea, lights didn't cause pain, no blackouts, nothing but a dull throbbing headache.

And yeah, I had to buy a new set of pedals. Not so pleased with the pair I got though... they're thin & have ridges to "grip" into the soles of my shoes. I prefer the stock platform pedals that came with my Su200, though I'm sure I'll get used to them.

are you sure you don't have brain damage?

can anyone say, "risk compensation"?
