A friend is a little financially strapped. She has a recumbent..She needs a carrier since recumbents don't fit in a trunk.. Where would I turn to find a deal on a recumbent bike carrier..It is something like 80 inches long. We find her a reasonable priced carrier she says she might start riding with us..
Never used e bay, etc..Any ideas please.

would it fit in a tandem rack? I know Yakama makes tandem attachments.

Shes looking for a "low priced" recumbent rack. The Yakama tandem rack is a very nice rack, but it is not low priced. The Yakama tandem rack alone sells for about $300, and you would still need the towers, load bars and locks. so your looking at $550

Before I can offer any ideas I need to know what make of bike she's got and the make and model of the car she's driving. Not all recumbents will work with all racks.

My bent is 87". I use the same rack as I used for my hybrid. I have to secure it a little better and take off the seat back since it acts little a sail. It's a Graber rack that goes into a receiver hitch. I had U-Haul install the hitch. The whole thing cost about $250 total.

OK, SO more then likley she will not want a roof mounted rack, unless she is on the tall side it will be a effort for her to get the bike into a roof mounted rack. BentbaggerJan can't use the roof rack mounted on my car, it's too tall for her. And it's only a Kia Spectra.

If her Forruner has a reciver hitch she should get a reciver mounted rack. Thule and Yakama offer them. But here are some links to less costly racks.

http://www.accessconnect.com/bike.htm Under $200
http://www.hitchrider.com/carriers.htm $210
http://www.ageebike.com/AllenRec.htm Starting @ $100

The EZ has a frame that will work well with the arms on a reciver rack, try putting a mono tube bent on a rack with arms. :)

If her Forrunner dose not have a reciver tube, she could use a rack that straps to the back of the car. I'm not a fan of them, they can be a pain to set up and to remove. You can buy them for $20 bucks, but you get what you pay for.

If she worries that the bike will stick out, have her remove the front wheel when the bike is on the rack.

Thank You Bentbaggerlen... Your assistance may have just helped my biking group to expand by one new person..
I am eager to help my work partner get into our sport..She is trying to loose weight..A bent, but yet no way to transport it..For that fact,it is sitting idle in storage in my plants basement..Yes, it does have a receiver hitch..

Where can one find a good deal on a recumbent car carrier?

Why would you want to carry a car on your recumbent? Wouldn't that be a little heavy? :=)
