Usually, I am not too interested, but this year, they nominated 13 year old Keisha Castle-Hughes for her performance in Whale Rider. She was actually submitted for the best supporting actress nomination (which is confusing because she really is a lead actress in that movie), but ended up with best actress instead. http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,2793417a10,00.html
It was such a shocker to see a minority, female youngster nominated for the first time for such an award. And the movie is the ultimate "girl power" movie- if anyone has little girls, they definitely should take their daughters to see it.
I'm also shocked because the movie was such an independent film- not the independent films that star big name people, but a true independent film out of New Zealand with a mainly Maori cast. That's about the only thing that really woke me up this morning. :D
The rest of the nominations:

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping she'll be the next Anna Pacquin and win that award. She really did do a good job in that movie.
