Just wanted to share our lovely temperature with everyone this morning!

Then National Weather Service had forcasted a low temperature of -7F/-21C.
This morning it is -32F/-35.5C ! That is air temperature.

So, neither car will start. I'm keeping the kid home from school. Its just way to cold to make walk the 1/2 mile to the bus stop and wait out there with no shelter.

So, did you ride to work? ;)

Zin

Hey mtessmer! Well, it would have been the only way I could have gotten there since neither of our vehicles would start this morning. :( We have about a 1/2 inch of glaze ice on the roadways out here. It is just not safe to be out on the bike. (no shoulders and a 45mph rural roadway). If the roads were clear, I would have not hesitated in riding. I actually get better speed when it gets so cold. The rubber tires get brittle and reduce the drag. :)

The worst part is it looks to be cold all week. We normally don't stay cold for long periods of time so this a "real treat"

I hear the cities got something like 6 inches of new snow! Is that true? Did you ride to work today?

Gojohnnygo.

Good call on keeping the children home. I can remember walking to the end of are driveway and walking another 1/4 mile to end of are dead-end road. Just to get on the bus and find out it was only slightly warmer than being outside.

Yep, we got six to seven inches. When I got up they hadn't plowed the streets, so, I said forget it (to slow). I wimped out, but I should be back on it tomorrow. We are not getting the low temps you are getting, I think our coldest day this winter so far was -11F. With what you got, I wouldn't have riden either. It's suppose to be below zero tomorrow... goodie.

You wouldn't hesitate to ride in -32 F? Geeeeeeeeeesh! :) That is what sucks, when the ice shows no sign of leaving. We have been having high temps in the teens with ice covered roads. I was stranded out of town for a couple days, but now that I am home, I gotta get back on the bike. This stuff is driving me nuts!!!

BTW, N7CZ, N0LWA here. Haven't been on the air in years but looks like we share a couple of hobby interests. The internet and cellphones sort of killed my amateur radio interests but I keep the ol license current. I certainly don't ever remember getting the radio withdrawls like i do with this darned bike. :D

Yea I have simular memories from when I was a kid. Except I we had to go out to the highway from our trailer park. Stand there, right next to the Missouri River in the open. Then, the bus would be late or stuck on its rural part of the route!

Your right, it never seems to be very warm on a school bus eihter!

I forgot to mention we have a 5-15MPH breeze from the NW! Brrrrr. You really have to watch out for yourself in these extreme cold temps. This is the coldest I have recorded in over 4 years! My hi temp so far today has been -18F. The NWS keeps revising the temperature forcast down on the 7 day forcest.

Predicted low is -28F tonight.

My mother has been trying to get me to move back to Texas... Hmmmm It is starting to sound better and better. :D

Yea I have ridden in -28F already this month. My commute is only 6.6 miles in and if the roads are clear I make it in under 40 minutes, depending on the wind. The only problem I have is my toes get cold. All ya gotta do is add more layers. :)

Now, having said that... I do long for days when my chest freezer is not warmer than the temp outside... :p

Oops... I missed reading the second paragraph.

Hey cool. I do have withdrawl from Amateur Radio. I am a VHF'r and run the High Speed Meteor Scatter and ultra weak signal propagation modes. Also working on my first Moon Bounce contact. :D

So I'll end this in ham tradition:

73
N0LWA de N7CZ AR .-.-. SK ...-.-

I wish I could be out there with y'all. I'm stuck inside sick. A friggin' chest cold. I woke up the third night in a row with the sheets damp and cold. I was sweating so bad last night I thought the electric blanket was set on high. I turned it off, and still woke up in sweat. UGH. Hope it breaks soon.
The snowfall in the TCs wasn't much to speak of. Although the media sure hyped the heck out of it. I understand that driving was a pain in the butt on Monday and Tuesday. What better reason than jump on the bike and ride to work.
As for commuting in these temps. I attempted it a couple weeks ago, but because of my own ineptness at being a mechanic my ride went down. I got 1 mile from work and had to walk back and call a cab. I tried though. I am looking forward to getting on the bike ASAP. I hate being sick.

Get well soon, naisme! We don't want you to miss all the fun! :D

I'll second that but something tells me that naisme won't be out to long. He is just to hardcore to be taken down that easily.

Get well soon naisme.

Thanks for the encouragement. The doc says two more days of rest and relaxation, then back to the salt mines. I'm on an antibiotic, have a sinus/bronchitis infection. Can you say "bored?" The saving grace is the DVD player and enough TdF videos that I really don't mind. I just don't like being sick. It sucks.
