Electric Bikes - Absolute newbie with a lot of questions!
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm shopping around seriously for an electric bike, and I've called looked at several websites. I've seen ads for I-Zip, Ultra Motor's Europa, and the E+, to name a few. I seek a complete bike that excels in all respects: wonderful, dependable performance; excellent components and build; great power and batteries; and an easy setup where this non-mechanic can get up and going without too much delay. For a really great package, I imagine I'd have to be willing to part with at least $1500, and I accept that. Please let me know about the bikes that have impressed you and that you could recommend. Many thanks!
I purchased an EcoBike Elegance 36 about 6 or so months ago and I love it! It is a 36V li-ion system and is about $1500-$1600, you might want to check out their website www.ecobike-usa.com

We have quite a few options on our website...
You mentioned IZIP, which is a well-established brand with lots of choices. They have a bunch of 2009 models coming out soon with Li-Ion if you're looking for a top-of-the-line battery - but you'll have to wait a couple weeks. Otherwise, the IZIP SLA models are worth considering if money is an issue. These models will also have a Li-Ion upgrade pack coming this year so you can upgrade later if you choose...
In my opinion... the E+ is extremely expensive. Although it might be a nice bike, it costs between $3000-$5000 with NiMh batteries... OUCH!
On this forum (and others), you'll hear a lot of people talking about electric bike kits and conversions. If you're looking for the most flexibility, this might be the way to go. This will allow you to convert any bike you choose - and you'll be able to upgrade and modify as you go. Crystalyte kits are very popular - but there's quite a few other choices...
Check out the new E-BikeKit with Li-Ion battery pack (http://www.eco-wheelz.com/catalog/ebike-kit-tm-electric-bike-kit-p-5.php). VERY NICE!

why is this thread being responded to? It was posted in July. I would hope he/she, would have found what they were looking for by now.

Other noobs like myself can benefit from the knowledge of others still. I'm trying to consider what to get for my mountain bike and it doesn't look that affordable, mostly because of my weight.
I'm looking at a Crystalite 5304 with a 48V 35A 16Ah system via 2 8Ah batteries in parallel.
