Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Against my my better judgement, I will be joining this forum. I was planning on staying 19 forever but it just didn't last. So I am celebrating turning 50 with a double metric century on Saturday. I'll start out riding the Tour De Tonka, a 67 mile ride around Lake Minnetonka. Riding to and from that will add another 14 miles. I'll finish up the first 105 or so on the Cedar Lake Trail and The Midtown Greenway.
After that I plan a nap.
The last 20 will be out and back to The Hexagon bar for Surf Night -- Big Surf, The 99'ers, and The Heavies (from Chicago). If any of you are from The Twin Cities and plan to do the Tour De Tonka, drop me a line and we'll meet up at the start. Otherwise, get yourself over to The Hex and I'll buy you a Blue Hawaiian or a Mai Tai.

Was going to say if you are planning a double- then stay with the youngsters- but you saved yourself with the nap.

What's so great about 19? You couldn't pay me to repeat the years between 13 and 30, especially in today environment.
Have a great ride for your double metric on Saturday.

Welcome.
Embrace your seniority, it's a blessing. My hair's turned white (along with
the full beard), and I've learned that white haired people are readily excused
from behaving according to the norm. It's like being a kid again.
Post often, post ride reports with pics and stories of food.
Happy Trails

As I've been saying to anyone who will listen, "I'm turning 50, not stupid."

Strange, I've been 19 for almost 50 years now. What seems to be the problem?
BTW, :welcome

I'd repeat 19 in a heartbeat. What little I remember of it was incredibly fun. :)

For some reason, turning 60 didn't bother me nearly as much as turning 50???

Welcome. You'll find quite a few 19 year olds here. Just don't be deceived by all the 50+ bodies they live in.

Maturity has never been one of my stronger traits.
Welcome to The Forum Reverborama
I would have stayed much younger too if I had managed to figure out how to avoid logistical problems. It occurs to me that one can stay 19 forever provided one dies at the age of 19. Given the alternatives, being over 50 is not so very bad.

+1
It's bad enough having to remember those years and watching your kids muddle through.

If I'd known I was gonna live past 19, I'd have taken better care of myself!

I had to take a nap after reading your post.
Speaking of that other thing, I keep trying to get older so I must like it.

There is no way I'd want to be 19 in this day and age, I see the pressure my kids have.
I'll take ignorantly blissful at 50 + any day.
Can't remember 19 or 50 and I am only 7 years past the latter. and enjoying life. Bloom where you are planted to add another cliche to the bunch... and Welcome to the forum, have fun.
would you like some pie?

You will be going right past the house I grew up in, at the Narrows Bridge....where the upper and lower lake meet.
That sounds like a great ride! And welcome to 50+.
EDIT: HEY! Your Varsity isn't yellow, is it? And send me a PM as to where you got your bike powdercoated for $150.

Yes, for me at least.
I'm having a ball at 68. Swimming, weight lifting, bicycling, singing, walking. I've entered a modified tirathlon. I'm presenting at a conference next week in MD, have a new organization started that is catching on nationally, and I have been quite a factor in getting our ballot proposal for individuals with disabilities on the ballot in CO.
I've developed two recent power point presentations, and even did a movie for the web!
I've never been happier nor never felt better!

Freudian slip! I'm tired just reading about all your activities. Does that make me a tirathlete? ;)
As for me, I'd rather be cow orking.

Yeah, I think I will go right by there.
I've got a red Varsity. I don't ride it a whole lot, but you can't miss it. It's a 25-inch frame and I converted the crank to 600 and the RD to Dura-Ace.
I got my Falcon/Merckx powder coated at http://www.powdercoatingtech.com/ up in Plymouth. Still trying to get the wheels ready for the ABCE in New Brighton in September!

Well, as of today I am officially in the club.
The ride is going well. After the first 75 miles I decided to have a beer with a few friends which sort of killed the idea of doing a double metric. I'll manage a century though. I'm at 84 miles right now and in about an hour I'll head out on a 20 mile ride with a stop in the middle to hear 3 surf bands play.
Welcome!
Are you completing the century with a laptop on board?
