Road Cycling - DA pedals

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm a Campy fan, but the new DA pedal is incredible. Much better mechanism than Look or Record. The price is the only issue. I hear that the Ultegra is just as good.

I assume you are talking about Shimano's SPD-SL ?
You can read a review at

A nice quote
Trust Shimano to trickle down its high-end technology to the masses. It?s happened with components. The Ultegra group is as good as Dura-Ace for all practical purposes, but it costs about a third less. Now there?s a $140 Ultegra version of the PD-7750, dubbed the PD-R600. It?s virtually indistinguishable in function from its pricier sibling.
I'm still impressed and happy with the ultegra version after 4 months now. Better than look for me. Definitely smaller and elegant and I can walk far better off the bike.

actually I should add that one guy who rides with us has broken the front of his SPD-SL cleat twice. It sheared off leaving not much at the front of the cleat.
According to Shimano Australia no-one else has had this problem. Strange that it has happened twice. Quite a few in the bunch have these pedals/cleats so not sure what is going on.
The SPD-SL cleat is the same for DA and Ultegra. $30 AUD, they look like flimsy plastic, but so far I haven't been able to wear out the yellow rubber feet so I'm doing ok.

Another vote for the Ultegra pedal. The main difference between the Ultegra and the Dura Ace is 1. 30 grams and 2. about $50-$75.
I have used mine for about 8 mos. and love them. The cleat is awsome (no more feeling like I am on ice skates when I am off the bike) and seem to be very durable (1.5k miles on mine so far)
I used to be a devoted LOOK fan, but will never go back! Score another victory for the BIG S!
Ultegra is great and the cost savings is terrific. Got mine for $91 new on Ebay.

has anyone used the 105 version, the 540? it looks like the ultegra, but it seems to be made of plastic? It seems kinda new...I wonder if anyone has had any durability troubles yet.

Its a hard resin and durability is very good. Would be a good first clippless pedal. I'm looking at either the R600 or Ultegra.

I just bolted on those new yellow cleats that come with the new SPD SL Pedals. I sure hope they work out for me.

THink I can put Shimano pedals on a Campy equipped bike without fear of the derailleurs revolting?

i have the 540's. before buying them i also tried the ultegras but decided that i didnt want to spend the extra cash just for the weight saving. if you dont mind spending the extra then go for the ultegras otherwise the 105s are still a good pedal

I've got the PD-R600 and they blow my mind. j/k.
They're the first clipless pedals i've ever had so I have nothing to compare to, but they work great.
