went from BB5's ... with 6" rotors ... to Juicy 7's .. with 7" rotor on front and 6" in the back ... waiting till the temp outside is below 100 then going to break them in before my next trail ride.

i will find out for sure soon enough, hopefully they are a little better then the bb5's
welcome to 2008.
why do you have to wait until the temp is below 100?? just go on your trail ride. they will break in as you go.

nearest trail is 20+ miles from me .. just going to hit my road for a few laps then pack up the bike and stuff with me when head to work in the morning ... to hit one of the nearby trails on the way home from work ...
the temp isn't the main reason i am waiting, hah ... i HATE the road i live on from 8am till 6pm ... then the gravel trucks and log trucks stop using it ... (disadvantage of livin in the country) ... and all the nearby property owners have already expressed their displeasure of me riding on their property ... meh ...
just what i tried out around the yard tho, i can see a huge difference in how they feel compared to the mech ones.

IBTL
I have BB7's on my DJ bike and Juicy Carbon's on my trail bike. The hydros are better but the only difference is feel. The BB7's stop faster, but it may be the 203mm rotor. :innocent:

hah yeah i would say the 203's affect it lol ... that and the possible weight between the bikes ... but i am still used to thinking about DJ bikes as 20"ers

i don't know what ibtl means but i am pretty sure cable disc brakes still suck. is this what you were trying to say?

Yo Diablo...that's my setup too...except in the Juicy 5 model. I figured out my delimma. (check mah thredd) They have really been for the most part a worry free setup with ample power and decent modulation. You will surely like them.

IBTL=In before the lock. Your statement is bound incite a flame-war.
Anyway, no. I'd say considering my BB7s ran me $150 for both wheels, they're a far better value than my hydros at $200 per wheel. The mechs have 90% the performance of the hydros.

Me.
I use both, and that's what I say. The only discernible difference to me is the feel. But I'm no brake connoisseur.

eh the hydro set i got cost me 100 a wheel .. so not all that bad ...
the bb5's i had were nice, but i had to adjust them often .. was going to get bb7's but went hydro instead when i found em for this price ...
the 'feel' is the major difference i notice ... as its my first time usin em not sure which i prefer yet ... but i am sure i will figure that out within the next few months or so ...

Closeout? I thought retail was ~$160.

Who's gonna pay retail when you can get 7's for $200 a pair on eBay brand new from a shop with warranty?
Code 5's are $209.

I don't know, all my parts are wholesale if Hawley carries them.

ebay is where they came from ... 07 models .. so yeah closeout stuff ... the L-BS in my town wanted close to 350 for a set .. and 100 to install .. i tried not to choke on the water i was drinking when they told me the price ...

$100 for something you bought from them? The LBS around here installs all parts you buy from them free.
Avids are easy to set up anyway.

yeah, heh thats why there is a hyphen in the L-BS .. because it xplains them ... the other shop in the next town charges nothing if you buy from them, and they do their best to come close to online prices .. or are at least honest if they can't touch them and offer a fair install price if you bring em in ..
these were a snap to install ... tho i will prob pick up or make a bleed kit for them eventually to have when i need.

ok, just got back in from ridin em on my road for a while ... main thing i can say so far, is now i can lock my brakes up .. couldn't do that with the bb5's ... so far they are real quiet .. but i am sure i will get a noise as soon as i hit a local trail and get em dirty ...
Honestly dude...I went 2 years with no noise on my J5's. (recent blunder excluded) They're a slick setup.
-Devil-
07-29-08, 06:47 PM
my bb5's made noise like crazy .. but it mostly was from sand and grit between the pads and the rotor ... i could blow em out and they would get quiet again till the next time i went through a bad area ... so i am figuring it will be the same with these ..
but how they feel, i really like ... got them setup where i have about an inch of movement that gradually applies em .. then the last 1/4 an inch will lock them up if i squeeze hard enough ... just going to have to remember that on the next trail run hah! .. was used to almost breaking off the levers on my old ones to slow down in some areas .. now i may end up doing an endo or a superman.
Ill have to see how I like my BB7 I have on the way. Only I'll be comparing it to a rim brake.
