I need snow type tires for my mountain bike? Anyone have any recommendations.

My son uses Nokian studded tires for his winter commuting. They are expensive but have lasted well. He wouldnt ride on snow and ice without them. He has about 7 mile commute and the temp has been about -10F for the last 10 days.
