so i'm wondering why positives never came back for piepoli and cobo after their remarkable win on hautacam? piepoli supposedly confessed to using epo. so what's the deal, was it pushed under the rug or did the tests not really work and if so how many others got away with using epo this tour? did aso strip piepoli of his stage victory or does it still stand? thanks for any info because i can't seem to find any.

Piepoli gave the EPO to Ricco, he never tested positive and neither did Cobo.
Never saw an article that said he tested positive for anything or failed any tests.

allegedly piepoli told his DS that he had also taken epo, and that's why his DS fired him

EPO is still very difficult to detect, chances are there were several "false negatives." It's possible ASO had Piepoli on a watch list though.

Ricco, on the other hand, used CERA. Roche (who makes CERA) and WADA got together and put a molecule into CERA, which makes it very easy to detect. No one knew about this until Ricco got popped.

I don't think that there were any accusations against Cobo. Cobo is a good climber and was their GC guy. Piepoli nearly destroyed him on that climb...

Roche, in a statement said they did not put a molecule in cera. But did supply WADA with cera so they could develop a test. Got this from Velonews.

Interesting because i read that Ricco was nabbed because the manufacturer had placed a special molecule inside the cera epo. So that when testers went to look for it all they had to do was find this specific molecule. So if they saw that in Ricco why wouldnt they also see it in Piepoli? Or was he never tested? Wait he won a stage..didnt he?..so he should have been tested.

This is the first time that the drug maker has worked this closely with the detection of ped's. Pretty cool stuff.

The initial reports said Ricco was trying to avoid being tested (a random test) and was only caught when he got stuck in traffic. Testing showed Ricco had EPO and CERA in his urine sample:

"During the Tour they took a lot of samples (from me), they made 10 tests in about 13 stages, two were positive and in fact in theory all the tests should have been positive therefore the method needs to be checked," he said.

well ricco admits to it and shows the tests are flawed. so the only conclusion is piepoli got away with a stage win. tour de farce indeed.

And you've got a real determination to write off the Tour completely. One-trick pony now, aren't we?

Actually, it's the constant naggers, naysayers and scandal mongers who will never credit a clean effort that depresses me more than the actual doping (which is pretty considerable).
