I'm getting psyched up for this. It'll be interesting if someone could take some pics and then we could match a face with a log-on name. I'll forget real names.

Crank two is a tandem and clothing shop very close to where we are starting. The owner is a really nice guy. It is where we got our tandem from :)

Plenty of parking there too.

Ahhh! I remember seeing it on my test run, and even pointed it out to the wife. A tandem only store - go figure. ;)
Anyway, I suppose we could start/end there if everyone wants to..... assuming the owner and surrounding businesses don't mind us filling up their parking lot. We've got about 30 or so participants slated to show up.
Well, give Ida a kiss for me, and tell her Howie says "hey". :D
Ida says, "Right back at ya.."
I was born and raised in Encino, like, totally - for sure.
She is originally from La Canada and the Valley and is curious how you went from Encino to Livermore .... a road much less traveled.
I used to come home from dates/parties in the wee hours, and then stay up and watch movies till dawn. One particular girl actually liked coming in and watching the old B&W's with me, so I married her. :)
How interestingly similar to our mating ritual: date #1 ..22 yrs. ago.. started with hours at Le Video in SF comparing our personal capsule reviews on every familiar title/actor, esp. the classics, of which they had plenty. This is probably the fastest way to get to know someone. Of course, we then decided to rent nothing and get a pizza, instead. Never been out of each others' company since. We say, technically, we're still on our first date. All together, now: "Awww"
Sorry, back to bike love.
Sorry, back to bike love.
Bike love is so much more platonic.

Encino to Sepulveda, then to San Ramon. Better? :)
I ended up here because I after 25 years of living in The Valley, I needed to escape. So I took the first out-of-area job offer that came my way, and convinced the girl to come with me. Turned out to be a very good descision - have you been to The Valley recently? :twitchy:

Through rumbutter, I have received confirmation from the owner (Byron) of Crank 2 that we are welcome to park in his lot, use his facilities, and enjoy free water and coffee before/after the ride. Therefore, I propose to move the start/finish to his property. It is literally only a block or so away from the original start/finish at the middle school, so there shouldn't be an issue.
So, the new start/finish point is now located at 5480-9 Sunol Boulevard, Pleasanton, CA:

NO. Ida's family had the sense to migrate to SF when she was a kid. While we did make frequent visit-the-family oriented trips for years, we no longer have ANY reason to return.. :)

Excellent! I just printed out the cue sheet, changed my directions to the new start.
Also, my new shoes came in today! WOOO HOOO! Took 'em out for first ride and they are MUCH better than the Sidi's I had been using. Going to write a review for the Road forum.

Looks like the heat is going to break (of sorts) for Saturday. Forecast is calling to mid-80's. Let's stick with the early start time, anyway. You BART folks, make sure you take the early train and don't forget - we're meeting up at Crank 2 located at 5480-9 Sunol Boulevard, Pleasanton, CA, not the middle school.

BBM, you forgot to put me on the maybe list but it's seems kinda lonely down there. Screw that short list stuff -- I found another alarm clock so I'm coming for sure, and I'm bringing the silver thing. ;)

I wanna hear more about IPSC! Where do you attend matches?
Hate to do it, but I think we're going to have to bail. If we want to use this sitter for another time, we have to take care of her. 3 1/2 hours of sleep due to her work schedule isn't going to cut it. Even with an extra bounty for lack of sleep. I'm saving the cue sheet. I'd like to do it, just not so bloody early in the morning.

BigBossMan is not kidding. Yesterday I rolled out of Concord at noon and went to to Pleasanton and back.
(50 miles) it was 103 when I got home.
Thank goodness for my favorite hot weather cocktail - Gatorade low calorie G2 with 1 1/2 tabs of Nuun dissolved in each bike water bottle. I drank 5 bottles of this stuff on my ride and I finished without having a single cramp, and no heat headache. The last 10 miles were really a grind in that heat.
I for one am happy about the early start after yesterdays heat. Even if it is supposed to be cooler Saturday.
Later in the day in another part of the year. This time of year the weather can be bad. Did 30 miles yesterday afternoon. It wasn't good.

Then it would be a big headwind on the way back. >in my best Roseanne Rosannadanna voice< "If it's not one thing, it's another...".
Seriously - this ride is best with an earlier start, all year round. I understand your issue though - I had to get up pretty darn early for the Davis rides, and they started later.

Not early enough to pick me up at the WC BART station on time, as I recall . . . . :innocent:
BBM is right about starting early. From mid-afternoon on, the route back is almost always hot, head-windy, or both. This time of year, usually both.
But at least it's a dry heat . . . . :twitchy:

Weather forecast I just looked at calls for a high of 79 degrees in Livermore tomorrow. Doesn't seem possible, does it? I mean, it's 90 right now at 7:30pm and there is no breeze. Usually, the cool breeze is blowing in right now when there is a weather change.

I got off work a bit early and rode down to the Calaveras false summit and back - around 4 a bit of a breeze picked up - enough to slow me down a bit, but nothing like as strong as it can get around here. I think tomorrow has the potential to be another hot one.

I'm afraid that 80* will feel like a cold front. I'm debating if I should bring my arm warmers...hmmm...

Yeah, I know. But I've been living here at the foot of Crow Canyon since 1987, and sudden, next day drops in temperature are always preceeded by a cool, freshening evening breeze coming from the west out of the canyon as the hot air finally gets hot enough to lift off the valley floor.
It ain't happening yet.......

Yeah - but bring arm-warmers just in case. :D Right now it's still 80 out.
The good news is that there is very little climbing, so you won't over-exert. The bad news is that there is very little climbing, so you won't get a chance to coast and cool off. :)
