Pacific Northwest - Favorite Washington County rides (west of Portland)

I need to come up some new routes for my daily ride. I spend a lot of time on Evergreen (Hillsboro). I was hoping that someone would share their favorite Washington County rides. Bike lanes or wide shoulders preferred.

Have you tried West Union Rd? You can take it heading west till North Plains. Nice quiet farm country with an occaisonal car. It gets busier as you head east of Cornelius Pass.

I've heard that West Union Rd is a nice ride but I'm not sure about what road to take to cross Hwy 26.

You say PortlandVelo has "riders of all abilities"? I am a newbie. I ride 17-20 mph on the flat 60-90 mins 4-5 time a week. Do you think there might be a group I might fit in.

I like Baseline from Hillsboro into Beaverton (where it becomes Jenkins), which happens to also be the way I go on my daily commute. To get back to Hillsboro, try taking Murray south to Hart (there's an unfortunate section where the bike lane becomes a MUP but otherwise it's not a bad street), turn left on Hart and follow it as it becomes Bany

From here, you can improvise your way to Rosa Road. What I do is turn right on 170th and go up to Oak, left on Oak, right at 179th, and zig-zag across Farmington to get on Rosa. Take Rosa Road west to 196th, turn left and go down to Red Oak Lane. Go right on Red Oak to 198th. Go left on 198th and immediately right on Carlin Boulevard. This is a lot of bland suburban riding to get you set up for a nice return path to Hillsboro.

Carlin Boulevard is still suburban but fairly pleasant, and at 209th it runs into Rosedale Road, which is what you came for. Rosedale is a nice county lane, although it has no bike lane or shoulder making even the light traffic more than you'd like. Rosedale runs into River Road in a place where River Road has a bike lane and also makes for a nice ride.

Depends on how fast you are. :) It's about 20 miles.

Andy, I take this section to go to work as well. I think you may have ment Murray North bound to left on Hart. If you take Murray south and take a left on Hart, you are heading towards Hall Blvd.

lbear, getting to West Union is pretty easy from Evergreen. Depending on where you are, you could try 185th north bound, Cornelius Pass Rd, Shute Rd. There is also a trail that takes you under US26 near John Olson and EverGreen. Good luck.

I got lost in Newberg last weekend. Nice roads out there.

I should mention that as of yesterday, Baseline (actually called Jenkins at this point) is currently "grooved" between 170th and Murray. The Washington County Roads website estimates that it will be done by Monday, but then they're allowing a month for striping. Plan your ride accordingly.

I did part of the ride this week just to check out Baseline.
I started on Main - Basline to 185th then North to Cornell and back on Cornell to Main. Baseline's nice but 185th between Baseline and Cornell is not bicycle heaven. Construction near the school on 185th takes away most of the bike lane.

Yeah, it seems like every decent road in Washington County is under construction right now. Once the construction is finished on Cornell between 158th and 185th, you'll be able to make a nice loop taking Baseline to Murray and then Murray to Cornell and Cornell back to Hillsboro, but right now they've got the who thing torn up.
