Hello, All.
I'm 48 and just getting back into riding after five years of... uh... well... I don't really KNOW why I haven't been riding! No good excuse, really. I've had arthroscopic surgery on both knees in the past 18 months but have been cleared to ride a bike.
I used to take 20-30 mile rides on the weekends back when I was smarter...
About a month ago I leased an office in a building that's only 2.5 miles from my house here in the Cool Springs area of Franklin, TN. (about 15 miles south of Nashville.)
Since I now work so close to home, it just seems dumb not to ride a bike to work. So, I've started riding lately and I'm really enjoying it.
I have two bikes that are both about 10 years old now... a Trek 520 (touring) and a Trek 730 (hybrid). I started out riding the hybrid to work but I'm going to start riding the touring bike because it will be easier to carry clothing, etc. in my panniers.
I've never really cared about going fast... except when I used to go mountain biking. One day, after going over the handlebars, I realized that mountain biking wasn't really very fun for me. It was only fun when I was pushing myself to the very edge of my skill level. (and beyond) Now, I prefer pavement!
Anyway, I've been lurking for a while but decided to register. I don't know that I have anything to contribute here except enthusiasm. I'm learning a lot from those of you who share your knowledge and experience. I appreciate it.
