I am looking at the Gary Fisher Wahoo for my new bike that I'll be taking on a lot of trails. I heard the pedals break easily, but thats an easy upgrade. Anybody have any problems with it, or know of some common problems, or some other bike in the same price range? An what about this bike http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/motobecane_300HT07.htm?

the wahoo isnt a bad bike. if it came with a better front suspension and didnt come with the one pice shifter brake combo it would be better.

Spend a little more dough and get the marlin. its the model up from the wahoo.

you get a dart 3 with lock out, better wheel set and a 9 speed!!!!!! among other things. its worth the extra money

FYI, it's a Dart 2, not 3 (so it's a little heavier, for one thing).

What is your price range? The bikesdirect bike is $300 but the Wahoo retails for $550 (the '09 model)... If it is possible to go higher I would also recommend the Marlin; I recently purchased one and I love it. You can probably get an '08 for much less than retail. I think the Specialized Rockhopper is also in this price range (retails for $590) and a lot people here have been recommending that bike.

Pending your price range I would actually go the Piranha. For about 100-150 more you get hydralic disc breaks, better shock, G2 geometry, and the Piranha is a nice riding bike that can take a beating. But if that is above takes you above your price range...then Marlin is a good bike.

Lockout is optional on a Dart 2. Marlin clearly (http://fisherbikes.com/bike/model/marlin) is a Dart 2. If you still don't believe me I can go take a picture of my bike with the lockout and the "Dart 2" decal :P

Edit: Not sure where you're getting your info, but according to the GF website (http://fisherbikes.com/bike/model/wahoo) the '09 Wahoo has a SUNTOUR SF9-XCM-V2, rather than a Dart 1. Oh, I see, the '08 is a Dart 1 if that's what you meant.
