built it up,got it running,tore it down,sandblasted the parts,....next paint!

Nice motorized bike build. I want to build one of these creations in the future.

Is that a Stanton gear box? What's the ratio like?

Yes it's a staton kit.The gear box reduces 18 to 1 and I'm using 26" sun MB wheels.I'm not sure of the final gear ratio,but I'm 180lb and the 33cc robin(4 stroke engine)would pull from a standing stop on level ground.But doing that would burn the clucth in short order.My guess is it runs at about 20+MPH.This build also uses the Staton inside drive which is a bit harder to install but centers the motor and makes the overall balance better.Can't wait to get her back together and purring.

Yes but it would also lower top speed,and at about 20mph i don't want to lower the ratio and drop the top end speed.Manny seem to build motored bicycles and want then to do (motorcycle)speeds...30/35+.These kits/motors only have 1 speed and operate like a weed whacker.There is ways to get different ratios or 2/3 gears.Staton sells the NuVinci hub which acts like an old sturmey archer hub only with no fixed gear changes but about the same low and high gear---staton says with this low gear you can pull the bike off from a stop.But with the base kit you pedal to get under motion then power up,this is not a problem,and I kinda like still having to pedal even if it is to only start.
If I ever do build a recumbent/velocar I'd use the staton with a NuVinci hub.The field to build a motorized sports velo car (with gears) is wide open--just think of a 60s bug eyed sprint type roadster velo car,or micro-corvette!! Not only cool--but useful too---sam

The answer is no,the engin is a pull start,after it's running all that is required is to turn the throtle.These small engins of the weedwhacker type have a small clutch,so any hard pull would shortin their life.It's best to pedal start/just get the bike rolling,then hit the gas.Easy to do,one spin of the crank is about all that is needed .Some engins you have to pedal start and come with a cluch with a lever.I prefer the staton with the auto type cluch.

Annie,I had one of your countrymen lookin for a set for me going on two years now---he mostly just gave up---but then this frame and fork poped up on ebay and I got them out of Au.They were used on melvern star autocycles and bsa flyingwheels,maybe others too.
If you ever see a set(cheep)let me know---sam

They are really really hard to find Sam, - I don't know why that is. :(
