Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Wheels WH-500 upgrade? 205lbs?

Hi,
I just got my road bike and it came with Shimano WH-500 wheelset.
I'm 6.5 205lbs, just starting back on the bike.

I saw some used Mavic Open Pro with Ultegra hubs for sale locally for 80$, no QR skewers no cassette.
Would these be a wise upgrade? I've read that those are pretty solid wheels but are they much stronger/faster than my WH-500?

If you've got brand new wheels I would ride them until you have problems. You're not really that heavy, so those might last a long time especially if you get a lbs to go over them and retension once you've ridden a few hundred miles.

I've heard lots of bad reviews on several forums about S-WH500's. Many riders ell on ebay then upgrade. Ultegra Pro's are an old favorite but not to my liking. But for $80, I'd buy them then rebuild the wheel using the Ultegra hub if anything happens to the OP.

And uhhh, training makes you faster not wheels.:thumb:

I guess I meant a different feel than my WH500. I think $80 is a good deal and it's unlikely that I'll find something of similar value in my area ever again.
The LBS initially offered me to swap my wheels to Mavic Aksium for 125$ but I decided to wait and see.

I have the Shimano WH-R500 wheels for front and rear. After the first 300 miles I took them back to the LBS and they straightened them out, and they have been pretty good. About 1800 miles after that, I decided to learn how to work on my own rims. 500 miles after that they are still going strong and I broke spokes on the first wheel set that came with the bike.
