Looking for somewhere southeast that is bike friendly. We went to Hilton Head Last year and were very impressed but I don't want to make the drive againFrom Pittsburgh We are just back into it so we only need good recreational trails. (read as flat) Sometime in September NC or Northern SC or Va???

There are some bike trails and routes in the Williamsburg area in Virginia's Tidewater. You might also look around at this Virginia-sponsored site: http://www.bikewalkvirginia.org/resources/bicyclists.asp

If you want flat but are OK with roads with wide shoulders and away from the beach (e.g. sidewalks roll up after 5!), there is a lot of good riding in Kent County MD (borders Chesapeake Bay)

Riding around Salisbury, MD where the annual Seagull Century (http://www.seagullcentury.org/) is held is suppose to make for some great riding. You won't be driving as far to get there either.

There are numerous group road rides in the southern part of Virginia Beach. The low (almost no) traffic roads thru the farms / horse farms are dead flat. Williamsburg area (45min from Virginia Beach) has MTB Trails.

Emerald Isle, just over the bridge from Morehead City, NC. The island is about 25 miles long, Coast Guard station on each end. The eastern side near Morehead City boast Fort Macon, a restored Civil War fort. Nice flat roads, plenty of side roads through beach neighborhoods. All the comforts of home, grocery chains, movie theatres, go-cart tracks, NC aquarium/museum, putt-putt, canoe and jet ski rentals. Abundance of Ocean Front or Sound front rentals.
