Thats ~50km east of Toronto.

Recently I just got the cycling bug and bought a new bike today, A Giant FCR2.

I used to ride a lot when I was younger, about 100km per day. Oh I'd love to even have the time in the day to be able to do that now! I pushed myself too hard and had to get off the bike to save my knees said the doctors. Now 15 years later I'm missing it. I did a couple weeks on the trainer using my old bike to see if my knees would feel OK and so far so good, but that cushy gel seat isn't feeling so cushy right now :notamused:. Surprisingly my legs feel pretty good aside from being tired from being out of shape. I'm not over weight at 6'0" and 185lbs but I am trying to stop a beer belly that seems to be starting to take a foothold. Plus I just want to be in better shape.

So that's my brief bio. I'm on a couple forums for my other hobbies because that's where the people who are really in the know are, and this forum seems as equally knowledgeable. I'm looking forward to becoming part of this community!

Thanks all!
Ryan

Hi Ryan_m welcome to the BF. Nice to have others from southern Ontario. I'm just down the 401 at Grafton. I am also a electrician, soon to be unemployed from Kraft in Cobourg, another victim of the high Canadian dollar.
I mostly commute by bike and also love to do loaded touring. I'm off on Saturday heading north and then down the Ottawa River and back home. Don't have an exact route but I hope to be gone 10-12 days at about 100-120km per day. Geez I hope the rain stops, I hate riding in the rain.
Not to take the wind out of your sails but I ride around 5-6000km per year and I have never been able to drop out of the clyde zone or loose that beer belly. You on the other hand are younger than I so you may be able to conquer that beer belly, I have just learned to live with it. It gives you somewhere to set your plate while your're filling it!
Hope you enjoy the BF as much as I do and happy touring.

Hello Ryan, check out the Clydesdales/Athenas forum. Not that you are a Clyde, but there are some great stories in there, and the folks are very, very supportive.

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) !

Haha, It's like you know me! I LOVE eating. Usually I'm left at the table eating say at Christmas or Thanksgiving while everyone else has finished and gotten up, cleared the table, and are doing dishes and packing up the leftovers. I haven't been able to do that for years but it's not for lack of effort. I have noticed now that I'm starting to get some exercise that my appetite is starting to increase.
