Southern California - USA Cycling National Championships (8/5-8/10). Volunteers needed.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The USA Cycling Elite, U23 and JR Road National Championships are going to be in Orange County, CA August 5th - 10th and we need volunteers for this amazing event. We need about 300 volunteers through the 6 day event. Yes... that's right... 300 volunteers!! We are looking for 15 people (2 to 3 for each day) to be in charge of organizing the volunteers for each day of the event. We need people for a wide variety of tasks, not just course marshalls! We are going to need 30 people just to set up the Crit course Wednesday night (6pm-11pm)!

Please let us know if you would like to be one of the 15 or if you don't want to make that big of a commitment, then you can volunteer on one or more of the days. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a brief description for the week:
Tues Aug 5th - Rider Registration
Wed Aug 6th - TT in Santiago Canyon
Thur Aug 7th - Crit @ Anaheim Stadium (still need 2 or 3 lead volunteers)
Fri Aug 8th - Junior Road Race in Irvine
Sat Aug 9th - Women's Road Race in Irvine
Sun Aug 10th - Men's Road Race in Irvine (still need 2 or 3 lead volunteers)

We are also looking for title and corporate sponsors so if you or someone you know would be interested in having your company name all over the place, please let me know. There is also space available for vendors to set up a booth during the Criterium that's going to be held Thursday at the Anaheim Stadium!

If anyone can spare a day or Wednesday night, PM me. Thanks.

Hello,

I will see what I can do personally to try to take off a day from work, but Team Velosport has got to be kidding sending out something like this at the last minute. This event has been on the USAC calendar for months and I've gotten periodic emails from USAC regarding participation in the event. I was wondering why I hadn't seen calls for help earlier.

Last week a member circulated a request for medical help through our Yahoo! Group and I thought that was cutting things too close but this takes the cake!

Can you forward the original email to me by PM? I'll get it out to our club.

This was actually posted on the team website for a while, but I decided to post it in here to see if anyone else would be interested. I'll see what I can dig up as far as the original mailings go.

It was also posted on socalcycling.com about a week and a half ago. I know what you mean Cleave, even that seems late. When my club puts on SDSR, they get the volunteers together early and if there is anything that can't be covered by the club, they are getting those together over a month beforehand. This seems like they're cutting it close for a first time event. I'd like to say I could help, but my event is on the last day and it wouldn't be smart to be out in the sun course marshalling any of the days before that. I will go support our juniors (and all the participants) at the criterium.

I will be out of town that week, but if you need any help at the Jr. Track Nationals, let me know.

I know they need money. Check socalcycling.com.

HAH! The one thing I don't have. I figured they don't need nearly as much volunteer help at a velodrome as they do on the road, anyway.
