Well, if you do, i need your help. I'm 6'7" with a 37inch inseam (my torso and arms are normal length i would say)

Am i limited to only the largest of bike frames like 64cm+ or might a 62cm be alright?

I will be using the bike for messing around and commuting up to 5 miles one way.

ATM im leaning toward one of the complete bikes direct bikes or one of their frames from bike island and building that up (i wench on my 22" framed SS mountain bike converstion)

Thank-you for any help you can offer

I've got an old 62cm steel Raleigh hanging out in my garage that I'm looking to part ways with. It needs new cables and a new rear rim (perfect time for an upgrade to fixed, perhaps?). The frame is a bit rusty, but the bike could be yours for the low, low price of "whatever it takes to get UPS to bring it to you." PM me if you would like pictures.

Huge bikes look awesome, I came across this picture of an Indy Fab bike and favorited it because it just looked so cool, this is probably what somebody the size of the OP rides when they get proffesionally sized up.http://ifrider.com/register/00746a.jpg

I'm 6'6" and ride a 22.5" mtb and a 24" road bike (it's an early Trek hence the inches- equivalent to 61-62cm).

I'm needing a new seatpost for the road bike but aside from that it fits pretty well. The largest I'll go will be 63cm... any bigger than that looks hideous.

I'm also 6'7", and I ride a 63cm Kilo TT. I just got it, and have ridden at least 20mi a day for the past 4 days without any discomfort. Good luck man, I know how hard it is to find bikes/shoes/pants/etc.

i'm 6'5 with a 36" inseam and i rode a 60cm kilo for a while and it was fine. now i'm on a 61cm concept, it's great. my brother is 6'7 with a 35/6" inseam and he rides a 64cm trek commuter. the thing is huge.

6'6" with a 36" inseam, and I ride a 62cm Cross Check. The seat's hiked up a bit, and I put a taller rise stem than what comes stock on the Complete (which is what I bought), but other than that it all fits great. Comfortable enough that I did a double century on it earlier this month.

My fixed gear is a 58cm and is far too small for me, but the frame was free so I'm making due with it for now. Seriously hiked up seatpost, adjustable rise stem, looks goofy as hell but it works. I plan on swapping components to a 62cm IRO frame in the future.

Thanks for all the help guys...I know the cycling purist's will smite me for saying this, but i started up this thread because i don't want my bike to look like the one posted earlier in the tread, If i looked like Bill while riding, i think i would have to give it up. I'm sure any bike that would be big enough for me will look like it has kiddy wheels on it and probably have a foot long head tube, but i want to limit that as much as possible. Any of you monsters out there have a pic of their large bikes? If you have one with you riding it, all the better.

Hey guys this is my first post. I found this thread to be appealing since I am 6'5 myself with a 37' inseam. I ride a 64 frame. I'm debating whether or not it's worth going to a shop to get sized up. For the most part the bike is pretty comfortable, it's just a little wobbly when I sprint. I already had a close call (smacked my head a couple weeks ago and taco'd the front wheel) Here are some pictures.

Ah I'm afraid that my top tube length is too short. I used a fit calculator and it gave me measurements for the correct size of a top tube id need. When measuring the top tube does one just measure from where the tube has been welded to the head tube and the seat stays, or include them in the measurement?

Hoping that it was just the angle. But jeah I got a baby face and need a haircut haha. When I used the KOPS method it told me to slide my seat forward, so i did but now my bum is hanging off of the saddle, so i raised it. I know, I know I should go to the shop and get sized up but I am broke at the moment so I was wondering if anyone had any advice to offer. There probably was an explanation to this somewhere but I just don't feel like going back and doing all that reading for the thousandth time, I've been playing with the fit for a while now. :/

You're always going to be the same size relative to a 700c wheel. If you're so concerned with how big you are relative to the wheels, you have three options as I see it:

1) Don't be stupid about this and get the right sized frame. It probably won't be as bad as you think it is. Remember, Bill is 6'11". That's really ****ing tall.

2) Get a bike that looks "right" but is too small. Put on a stupid long stem, a big stack of spacers and get a LONG seat post. Your bike always handle wrong and will never be really comfortable on a long ride. It will also look much worse than a big bike, because a big bike looks fine, but an ill-fitting bike makes everyone who knows about such things snicker behind your back and on the internet.

3) Drive a car and get fat.

Bonus option:
*) Get someone to make you a rim that is proportionally larger, then get a custom frame built around that wheel size. We short people get the 650c (571mm) option, why shouldn't you tall people have an equivalent option, like a rim with a 670mm bead seat diameter?

(I'm kind of kidding, because nobody will do this, but it doesn't seem like an unreasonable idea to me.)

Get someone to build you a 36er using unicycle rims (I have no idea what the options are for tires).

Damn those tires are goofy as **** on that thing. It's a good idea, but that project would brake the bank! As for my frame, my stand over height on my motobecane frame is completely normal maybe it's just the wheels. gotta do what you gotta do.

6'11" isn't very tall when you are 6'7" , but your 100% correct and i will buy a frame in my size (well as close as i can), and yes, the larger frames don't look as bad as i thought they would.

If i decided to go the bikes direct route, whould it be ok to get a 63cm kilo or would a 64cm hour or messager be alot better for me (just taking about their largest frame sizes, not the compent mix)?

6'5", and a 62cm bike is what I ride. I have shortish legs for my height and long ape arms. Its hard for me to find a bike that has those kinds of proportions. And I have been Sasquatching around a bike for a long time, so you will not be the first.

Are you tall dudes measuring to the nuts or all the way up? I'm 6'4" with a 33 inseam to the nuts & ride a 58cm. I know that anything with less than a 57cm ctc top tube won't work for me.

To answer some questions:

The Motobecane should not be wobbly on sprints with that geometry, the HT angle coupled with the fork rake should make for a very stable ride. After switching from my Hour to my current frame, I now know what "twitchy" is really like.

Different frame manufacturers measure differently & offer different TT lengths, so this is something to consider when buying a frame. I would suggest checking eBay often, as since there is a smaller market for big frames, you just might get a real steal if you know what measurements fit you. For instance there was a vintage Gios pista frameset on ebay that ended with no bidders recently, size 60 with a 59cm TT. Perfect for someone between 6'4" & 6'6" depending. The guy is on velospace so you may be able to find him with a search if you're interested.

Also, make sure your saddle position & stem length is optimal. Those seemingly minor details can make a world of difference.

I'm 6'5" - inseam is around 35-6". I ride a 25" frame and have room to tweak things if needed. 120mm stem... 175mm cranks.

Barefoot stand-over leaves about 2" of room.
