Just wondering if anyone has an aftermarket full chaincase installed on your bike over an IGH? Would you recommend it?

I'm sitting on my hands watching for replies. :twitchy:
My chaincase isn't aftermarket, but came with the Trek L200 that I abuse as a winter bike. I realize that my experience doesn't help you with choosing one, but I can verify that my chain had no grime, no rust, and only got lubed (not cleaned) every 2 weeks. Even with full fenders, that salt found its way into everything but my chain. :thumb:

There is the Hebie. The Urbane Cyclist in Toronto has them. They are a brick and mortar store and you may have to call to get one.
It floats on the chain, and does not attach to the frame of the bike.
It does make noise (not a hell of a lot) and does have drag (also not a hell of a lot).
I have one on my beach cruiser which I use at the beach, I like it.
I think it is worth it for sand, road salt, dirt road types of places. If you just want to keep your pant's leg clean, no.
It floats on the chain, and does not attach to the frame of the bike.

Thanks Allen...I'll be in TO this fall and pay Urbane a visit when I do. I'm looking for a minimum maintenance solution for winter riding - although it would be nice to find something that worked well enough to leave on all year long.

It'll keep your pants clean just fine. I just find the drag and noise more irritating than rolling up my pant leg. However the drag and noise are nothing compared to how irritating I find a dirty drive train.
I guess what I'm trying to say is it ain't perfect, but does the job it is intended to do quite well.

They are available in the EU but are very hard to get in the US. My Redline R530 (http://www.redlinebicycles.com/adultbikes/R530.html) has a full chain guard. It does a pretty decent job of keeping the chain and me clean. You might be able to order a replacement one from them.
