Fifty Plus (50+) - Another ghost bike...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This one is too close to home. I was riding this morning and came across a ghost bike and a ton of flowers, candles, etc. on the corner of Park and University, just a few blocks from home.
A 22 year old cyclist was killed a week ago when he turned against a red light in this intersection some time after midnight.
Here's a link to a very short news article: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/20080722-1301-bn22bike.html

There's a new ghost bike about six miles from my house, too, at the spot where Meredith Hatch and Mike Alfaro were killed by a drunk driver in June.

I hate what happened, but if you run red lights at midnight on a bicycle, you are taking an extreme risk. I feel sympathy for the person who hit him, who may have been driving correctly but now has to live with their memories of having killed someone.

Theres one that showed up on one of my favorite routes about 6 weeks ago - where the MUP crosses a road - not a busy road but a 55MPH road. Now two of my routes have Ghost bikes. I have been meaning to post a pic and start this thread but have not remembered my camera, I will try to make a point of it as I go that way on Friday. I want to stop and read the sign on it anyway. I don't know what caused this new one but the other one was caused when two teenagers were drag racing and came upon the rider.
