I just got this through my bike club email list
I was riding up Diablo Monday and our favorite Ranger Carl from the Wells Fargo Team asked me to spread the word on the road closure.
The Southgate will be closed Monday thru Friday (weekdays) between Aug 4th and Aug 29th. It will reopen on the weekends. This closure will effect everyone not just vehicles.
The Northgate will remain open to the summit like normal all days.
For more information please call the Ranger at 925-837-2525 or 925-837-0904. Junction Ranger Office can be reached at 925-837-6129, In the event of an emergency please call 911.

Oh, guess I'm heading up Mt. D tomorrow!
Thanks for posting this.

Here's a part of another email I got:
... this is a $2.2 million major road repair and repaving project. The closure is necessary in order to expedite the work and to insure safety for park visitors. Contractors will be digging out old patches of road during the closure which will result in unsafe conditions if the road was left open to the public during this phase of the project.

Yeah, they've had metal plates across the road and traffic stoppages for road work a bunch of times lately. It's made descending south gate a little more challenging:eek:

Update: It's still closed. According to their call-line, it'll stay closed 'til 9/19. Went up yesterday thinking it was open only to be turned away. I have no after work climbs .

Well, there's always Northgate or repeats on Castle Creek.

My after work rides start around 6:30. I live 4 miles south of South Gate so a quick jaunt to the junction and back will typically get me back before it's too dark. Going out to Walnut Creek to go up North Gate means I'd have to return the same way but in the dark and I'm not too fond of riding with headlights, at least not this early. And where is Castle Creek? When I google it, I come up with places in Colorado .

Hey Alain - why is your info in red? Is that the new version of a star?
Nice <\sarcasm> how they planned to do SGR during the last few weeks of DST, isn't it? Lots of riders go up NGR and down SGR on weekday afternoons... but not at the moment.
Also nice <\sarcasm> that they convinced the Park to let them close the road so they can get done faster and wound up requiring an extra three weeks (possibly more, who knows).
Anyway, you can drive your bike to NGR, be back down by dark and then drive home. Not a great plan but better than not riding up at all.
Edit - Hey, my info's in red now too! Maybe it means I'm currently logged in?

Thanks, DS, for the suggestion and it really is amazing how far off they are with their construction schedule. Basically, they were 75% off in terms of time and probably costs. And, yup, that appears to be one of the new features. Oh, and it appears that it logs the people checking out your profile. Since I have lousy aim with the mouse pointer, I've been mistenly clicking on some people's usernames instead of the "last post" icon so it may appear I've been stalking people which wasn't the intent (or was it :innocent:?).

Yep, although that is not a new feature. You can also change your options to be in "invisible" mode.

My bad...
Meant to say Castle Crest Rd.
From South Main (just past Rudgear) turn left at Crest.
Turn right at Castle Crest Rd.
Sit and spin and have fun.
DiabloScott suggestion is prolly better if you want to do sustained climbing.
If all else fails, get on the MTB and climb in the golden hills.

Yeah but it used to be some other kind of indicator, can't remember what that was but it was more obvious. This new red thing just threw me for a while.

In other words they were 175% of estimate - they should have those road guys working double shifts. Hope the Park used a good liquidated damages clause in the contract.

I think just the name was red before, now your name and everything under it are red.
