Since you live in SoCal, your LBS sould be able to get you Nitto stems as short as 5 cm......with a loooong quill.

I can order a whole range of amoeba stems here from the local amoeba outlet. they range from 50 up to 150mm.
I use a 60mm on DH stem of my bikes and a 50mm DH stem on the other bike.
